So i tried norms for the first time in my life friday. I dont know why there are such low stars. Yes it is one of those standard coffee shop chains. But the food seemed really fresh and good. The prices were really reasonable across the menu. Our group tried club sandwiches and a couple salads (which were huge)...all great. I would pick this place over dennys or ihop any day!

The service during the last two or three visits were consistently poor. Luckily our server ended his shift so he was replaced with a sweetheart. Waited 20 minutes for soup/salad, and another 30-35 minutes for the food to arrive. The vegetables were cold and the steak was so much smaller than usual. Not to mention I got well-done from my medium rare order. It was so difficult to chew because every bite felt like I was abusing my teeth. You've been so disappointing lately, Norms. What happened? I just don't see myself coming back for a long time..if at all.

"Let's meet up at Norm's. Yes, the one in WesCo." We are creatures of habit. Norms happens to be mine when I'm in the area, just about any time of the day with friends. It was great when they built this location closer than the previous San Gabriel restaurant a couple years back. I only get one thing: Steak and Eggs (order the steak whichever way you'd like). For that alone, the friendly servers, and the innumerable times I've been, Norm's is a great alternative to IHOP and Denny's and has never let me down. Did I mention the coffee is great too? It's close to a lot neighborhoods, great for families, as well as big groups. Eating here is not expensive at all, and it's good. Sometimes, yes, the wait is long, but that's the expectation - lots of happy patrons, maybe some impatient ones. Nevertheless, Norms is the norm for me.

Before writing my own review of Norm's, I read many of the other reviews or Norm's to gauge what other people were saying and to address their comments in my own review. 1st and foremost my 5-star review is that they are open 24 hours a day. I have never been a normal hours kind of person and it's nice to know there is a restaurant out there that is always open when you get hungry. 2nd reason for 5 stars is the food. It is a typical family restaurant menu, but you get good value and portion sizes with their specials and on every meal they have. Home style cooking is not anything like a celebrity chef restaurant, but I have never been served a meal I didn't like and sometimes can only eat 1/2 a meal and take the other half home for leftovers. 3rd reason I like Norm's is the atmosphere. The older locations like this one in Covina with it's Googie architecture I think are really cool and I am very happy they are still around to enjoy. Because I mostly come here late night, there is never a crowd and to me it is a really peaceful setting. I also like all the Norm's locations where you can keep an eye on the kitchen like this one. Also the servers here have always treated me very well. And compared to Denny's, I think the food at Norm's tastes twice as good. So those are my reasons for giving Norm's 5-stars. Thanks Norm's!

I wasn't surprised that there was a wait on a Sunday morning. With that said, we were seated within the wait time estimated by the hostess. Unfortunately, we were seated close to the entrance and with the crowd that was waiting gaping at us, it made me feel like leaving before I even received my order. I would recommend improving the waiting area and adding additional seating outside for this purpose. Let's see if the food is worth the uncomfortable experience. Food was served. Nothing special. I have lived in Southern California for 35 years and have never eaten at a Norms and probably won't again. For me, when eating out the food is most important; but I also factor in the atmosphere and service and in my experience this place falls short in almost every category.

I like this place, especially during the weekdays when they have their bigger better breakfast. It's a pretty good deal for a lot of food. I think this place is better than Denny's or IHOP. It's definitely more crowded. The service is kinda eh, but seriously these waitresses work hard and often have way more tables to manage than they should.

Came in for my lunch break.. I sat right away and I told the front desk I was ready already. Waited for a server for 15 minutes so I just left. I was so hungry too. Smh

As far as a coffee shop they do a nice job. Love the steak & eggs. Steak is always tender & fairly priced. We have always had good service. Never had a rude waitress that smells like cigarettes & chewing gum. Servers are always attentive & friendly

My boyfriend and I love eating at Norms. Food is great for its price but service was ALWAYS HORRIBLE. The waiters will see us waiting to be seated but will glance and give no indication that they'll be helping us soon. Or if we are waiting to get the check or ask for anything else, the waiters will see us but pretend they didn't. Today, it was a whole new experience. We were seated in no time and Daniel C. was of great service. He was very polite and tentative to us. Best service we have yet received at Norms. This guy needs to be promoted!

Probably the best ny steak and eggs deal in Los Angeles. When on special $8.99 when not still a steal at $10.99. Great service and open 24hours. I just wish there was a norms closer to Pasadena. This is one of the last norms in the SG valley area unless you make a trek out to the beach area. Best steak specials if you don't mind the simple coffee shop atmosphere. This one has great friendly service too. New York steak and shrimp only $13.99 and includes soup and salad. Again not a place if you are expecting a high end steak but a great comfy greasy spoon coffee shop chain that is still surviving. Great for breakfast and other dishes as well. Lots of reviews knock norms but what are they expectations? You can't beat the price. Not a place to impress but get a good affordable coffee shop meal.

Very disappointing that they ran out of hamburger meat.. on a Sunday at 9pm might have to stop coming here!

Seriously HATE this norms ! The staff are so sweet ! && considering my boyfriend and I always go past 2 am ! They are the sweetest ! But honestly the food is so gross ! Take the 2 minutes and go up the street to Denny's !

  • Angel P.

Seriously, it's Norm's. You can't go wrong. Go there. Any of the locations. Ya really get more than your money's worth! Even though I don't know if I had many or any check-ins at the location on La Cienega in West Hollywood - but that was my local Norm's - it's decor and vibe are pretty outdated, but that just makes me think that it's so darn popular, it would be a dis-service to the regulars to shut the place down for renovation. So deal with it. Steak and eggs for $4.99?? Daily and nightly generous specials- I wonder sometimes: since the meals are so inexpensive, how does the staff fare on the tip factor? They run their tails off- If you can afford to give a couple extra bucks than what the percentage is - do it! I know for sure that I couldn't do that job. NORM'S!!!

My review was based on customer service . My boyfriend & I went in on a Friday night & surprisingly it was not busy . We told the hosted we where a party of 3 , the third person would join us later. The hostess had us wait and didn't really think anything of it. People kept coming in and seated right away . I went and talked to the hostess and I asked if the wait was long and she said we will seat us when the rest of your party gets here . I told her we are only 3 and 2 of us are here .. Then she snapped and said we can only seat you when all your party is here . My boyfriend and I were really hungry and wanted to be seated and possible have our drinks and appetizer while we waited for a friend to join us. We waited another 15 minutes & we decided to get up and leave and she finally approaches us and said she will go ahead and seat us even though are third person wasn't here . I said no thank you and we left. I understand if we were a large party but there was 3 and made us wait over 40minutes when the restaurant was empty .. Waste of time .

Visit on Feb 21, 2015: I had a good visit on a crowded Saturday night. The place had a noisy chaotic ambiance, but despite all this it seemed like the staff was firing on all cylinders. Wait time for my party of 5 was about 15 minutes. The table when we arrived was kind of sticky, but they cleaned it up some more when we asked. I ordered coffee with the $8.99 Sirloin and Eggs. My first cup of coffee had a somewhat off taste too it (maybe it was not fresh), but subsequent refills tasted good. I ordered the steak medium well, eggs overhard with hashbrown and pancakes. I was nervous about ordering breakfast at 8:30pm but it went well. Everything tasted great and was cooked to specification. I really enjoyed the pancakes. Photos uploaded. Respect to our server Danielle, she was running around all over the place but was great the whole time in making sure our table was taken care of. It must be extraordinarily difficult and stressful being a waiter/server in that kind of busy & chaotic environment but she handles it very well. Five stars to her.

Went at like one in the morning when there were hardly any customers. It was the worst service ever and we had to get up to go find our waitress who was mingling with coworkers. Not coming here again.

  • David C.

The food here is nothing to boast about. Norms doesn't have any special items they are famous for. Norms has no special gimmick, nothing that makes them stand out from the diner down the street. However, I get a lot for my money when I come here and have yet to leave here feeling empty. My last visit, I ordered the steak and shrimp special for breakfast. Not exactly a breakfast item but they did their best to accomodate. For example, they didn't have any sauteed vegetables or soup available. Instead, they substituted for an extra salad and a plate of fresh fruit. Needless to say, it was delicious. My steak was tender and tasty. The shrimp were fried just right. Overall, my stomach couldn't be happier.

Wifi, but no outlets. Called ahead to confirm they had wifi available and was assured they do. After waiting for a table I was notified they had no booths with outlets and that theirs were located on the ceiling and they weren't allowed to plug anything into them.

Not a fan of norms it's like eating paper for dinner. The concept of open all the time is good I guess for when your hungry they will be there but it's not great. Pancakes you can't mess up can you well I guess if there over cooked you can. Ehhh not to be caught in here

I started writing this at the restaurant while we waited for our bill - but felt bad about leaving a 1 star review - it's my first for a restaurant. However, a coworker complained about Norm's today, so I thought I should put this out there. We went the night IHOP had free pancakes - their line was too long. It was a Horrible mistake, we should have waited at IHOP. We all regretted going and were sad to have wasted money. We waited for over 30 minutes and when we got our food it was cold and disgusting (except my friend's spinach shrimp pesto salad which was great!). Hopefully our night was an exception, our server said they had new cooks. We told the woman at the cash register and she just barely apologized - made it seem like it was no big deal - we won't be back. $25 down the drain for our nasty food. He got mushroom chicken and fries. Everything was cold and dry, some of the fries were rock hard. I got breakfast tacos from the healthy menu - they were cold and the fruit juice from the cantaloupe that was on the same plate had soaked the tortillas completely. Ew. I couldn't even eat them. Our server didn't say anything when she took our barely touched plates!!

I love norms. It's my favorite out of these denny's-esque restaurants. This one, however, has horrible service. We waited here for 30 minutes and didn't get any attention at all. The place wasn't that crowded either. Needless to say, we left after having no service for that amount of time. Tldr; I don't recommend coming here after a bar or club night. They seem to understaff their nights. Hit up another norms if you have the option.

I had the lumberjack, with a side of pancakes price is fair I took forever to get coffee refill, server did and check on us as often as they should but overall Not bad. Parking sucks

Came on Tuesday night w my boyfriend to have dinner. Awful experience with the services. To top it off. I was Harass by a male person who happen to be in the women restroom stall trying to sexual-harassment women!! Rush out the restroom n called my boyfriend. Bf spoke to the staff at norms. Acted like was normal not cared to take much action n Just left the man leave with n walk out, with no report. Horrible. Will be calling corporate office regardless this issue!!

I came for the food not the ambiance. Sunday afternoon, super busy and really loud. That's okay, I was in good company. I had the NY steak sandwich on cheese toast topped with onion rings and fries on the side. Delicious and only $11. Mom had the BLT and fries. Brother had the chicken and gravy, eggs and toast. Everyone was satisfied, good food and good portion. The coffee was hot and tasty. Our server, Michael was very attentive. It was nice to have the all American diner experience and all for under $40. I really like Norms, consistently fresh, non-greasy food.

Since I wrote my last review. I got a message from Laura correcting my spelling. Lol ok my bad. And stating that this is not a 5 star restaurant. So I guess her outlook is that since it's just norms they have the right to mistreat there customers. Wow! maybe when I walk in I'll kick my feet up on the table. Since this is "Not a 5 star restaurant"

Bad horrible waited for 2 hours then when we got our food the toast was stale the waffles were cold and hard barley chewable the eggs weren't even cooked right we asked for a plate and they gave us a dirty plate the waiter didn't even attend us it was just horrible I'm never comming back to this norms again

    (1)
  • Joe C.

Usually quick n attentive but today was super sluggish and we seemed (my lovely gf) to become the black sheep. No love at all... I had to ask for a refill, and not to mention the waiter comes back to tell us they ran out of butter? Umm.... yeah, bring back the one from Sg.Sad day for y'all

  • Joshua T.

I like this spot. For about $8 you can get the sirloin steak with eggs, hash browns and a side of pancakes. Service is good here, depending if it's busy or not I really like the lady Lucy, she's cool

  • Hin Q.

What would you expect from Norm's? Food that satisfies you at a reasonable price, right? Unfortunately other than being a quick service restaurant with large food portions, there is nothing else that is unique to speak of for this chain of restaurants.

    (3)
  • Tiffany T.

I have not been to a Norm's for almost 10 years, but I am sort of glad I came to this location. Our server was the best, kind, and incredibly friendly! The food was so-so, clam chowder was decent, salad seemed old, you can tell the lettuce had no crunch or firmness whatsoever, my piece of New York steak was so chewy it hurt my jaws! Anyways, overall amazing customer service!

What can I say about Norms? I've been going to Norms since I was a child. We use to go to the one in San Gabriel. Unfortunately it's been closed and the whole building has been demolished making way for a new developer who took over. I was actually quite sad to see that Norms go out of business... and at one time I thought the chained restaurants was at its last legs. Thank goodness it didn't happen. I am so happy to see more Norms Restaurants pop up in different locations. And I was extremely happy to see this particular location open up, that I even told my parents! Yes, so we went!! At Norms, the food is not expensive. You get a lot of food for you buck. It may not be a Mastro type steakhouse, nor may it be a Black Angus type either. It is a regular diner that serves average food... which can be good depends on what you like and the way it's prepared. I'm here for the inexpensive food, and the great ambiance. I usually order their T-Bone Steaks. I believe for their dinner plate, it's only $13.49 which includes soup of the day, a garden salad with your choice of dressing, a dinner roll, and your main course which is offered with your choice of potatoes. You cannot go wrong with this meal. It's definitely tasty, and the T-Bone is 3/4 pounds. Always order the meat medium rare or medium to keep the choice flowing. If ordered at well done, well... it might be dry and tough. I have also tried the meat loaf with mashed potatoes... a not a wise choice! I'm not too much of a meat loaf fan, so the way this dish was prepared wasn't up my alley. Even the mashed potatoes wasn't too good. Anyhow, I still like Norms! Basically, you cannot go wrong with their sandwiches, salads, steaks?, and drinks. I don't rave at them, but basically will choose them over most other diners. I like Norms! The service at this location is just okay. Don't expect too much from the waiters/waitresses because many of them are trainees. So you might have to excuse some of their inexperienced abilities at a job. At least they "try" their best from what I see. I observe and can probably correctly analysis their backgrounds to a certain extent. And many of us don't have life's greatest luxuries. Our waitress was very polite. She was patient and kept checking up on us. I didn't get her name, but she goofed a couple times while at it... and I excused her mistakes because she was honest about not knowing, and forgetting. At least her supervisor came up to our table to ask if our order was taken. Then after our meal, a manager came up to ask if everything was fine. So I kind of realized a mistake was made somewhere. This particular location has been opened for almost a month. It's a nice restaurant to visit. Everything is still clean and up to par. And they're open 24 hours! I have never seen a busier Norms than this one. The parking lot is huge, but can get filled. I had a good experience at this place! Yes, I will be back to Norms. I like Norms! The food is three stars, and the service was four stars the time I was there! I appreciate hard working employees who tries. And we all make mistakes. So 3-1/2 stars for this place... but, I round up to four. I like Norms!

  • Rudy R.

If there is one thing I am picky about it's breakfast. While this is not the best breakfast I ever had if I had to choose between IHOP, Denny's and NORMS, then Norms wins hands down. They are probably one of the few breakfast places who actually know how to make real French Toast (which means they allow their bread to become slightly stale). Another nice perk is if you are a military member and show up in uniform, you will receive 50 percent off your meal (Your meal and not your whole family).

    (4)
  • Octavio G.

There's something about Norms that has always given me the familiar feel of growing up. The service has always been great and the portions are huge. Today we ordered breakfast for lunch. And the lumberjack hit the spot! Glad there close.

  • James B.

We didn't even get to sit and eat. The hostess Laura said it would be a 25 minute wait on mothers day, so i put my name down and waited 30 minutes. After 45 minutes of waiting i went to go check on our table and they told me it would be another 45 minutes, they said they knew Lara was telling people shorter times and that they told her not to. I would give negative if possible but i cant. Stay away from this Norms.

    (1)
  • Alfred L.

This is my first time here and I'm not impressed at all. Our host Melissa was great! Smiles all around and very welcoming. After that, I get seated and our waitress Nancy walks up, doesn't greet myself or my friend and just says "Do you want a Pepsi or something to drink?" ... -_- well hi. She comes back a couple minutes later and says "Are you ready?" In a very snarky tone. My food had good flavor but took forever to come out. I probably would come to Norms again, but try a different location. Today just wasn't the day to try something new for me I guess

    (2)
  • Ashley H.

I had a nice dinner experience at this Norm's. I use to go to the one in San Gabriel back in the day, so this place brought back a lot of good, childhood memories. The food proportions are big for a meal under $15 (tip included). I went with a group of 5 famished girls and we all needed to go boxes. -If you want a good dinner experience and you don't want to go to IHOP or Denny's, try Norms.

  • Maris T.

My family have been here a few times, the last time we were here in February the service was horrible, the waitress didn't acknowledge us till about 30 minutes later (why we waited idk). When she finally brought our drinks mu husbands coffee mug had fresh lipstick on it, we complained about it and management just gave excuses like we are under staffed, we were rushing. Whatever im not going there anymore

  • Arlene Z.

First time at this location, ordered the Sirloin steak and eggs. This was at about 11:00pm a Thursday night. Server was super kind. She even apologized for the wait. We ordered our food, and about 1 hr later I get bacon and eggs. I quickly told her and she apologized, she explained how the cooks were switching shifts so it kind of mixes it up. No worries, I waited 5 minutes and got my steak and eggs. I was sort of disappointed with the size of the steak as it was the smaller than the usual size... Would I return? Not likely, but the service was good. Also the strawberry cheesecake was kind of good.

  • Dominic G.

TF... Never felt so discriminated in a long time. Long story short.... PHUK Norms - Ended up walking out an omelette toast pancakes eggs bacon etc. takes more than 15 minutes to prepare at a restaurant kitchen. Doubted it as we watched a table that was seated after us receive their order which happened to be similar to ours.

  • Corey S.

To the people who leave negative reviews about Norm's, please remember you're at NORMS not Mortons, Cheesecake Factory or any other upscale restaurant people are accustomed to. Unless you find a fingernail, pubic hair or bug in your food don't complain. They're always open and willing to serve drunk people when the bars close.

    (4)

Very inconsistent service and product. BLT had half and and of tomato. Barely toasted. Half a piece of bacon. Poor meal overall.

Don't know what people are complaining about. Told we had 25 min. We waited 10. Got great service from Linda on a busy Saturday morning. Got our food in 15 min. It was hot not cold I would come back

Sooooo sloooooow. Don't bother wasting your time coming here after hours, you'll only end up frustrated.

  • Ernesto T.

We waited about 20 minutes after we were seated to even be acknowledged by what appeared to be our waiter. Right off the bat the customer service is bad. I don't care how busy you are, you have to at least acknowledge your tables and Serena didn't do that. Looking around we saw more upset customers so at least we weren't the only ones. I had 2 little ones and it was dinner so they were falling asleep on us.... As for the food, it looks like it going to be good from what the tables around us are getting.

So I try to avoid Denny's, Norms, Ihops, and cafes like it at all costs but my mom dragged me to one. The service was subpar. We sat at the counter and watched the waitress talk to the other waitresses and gossip rather than check on us or her other tables. The food was also subpar, it wasn't bad and it was edible but there was nothing special about it. The prices were reasonable and the place was pretty clean. I probably won't be back.

Well. To start off with. I have never been to a Norms. And I was just down the street from this one. Going to Bert's Mega Mall. When I yelped this place it had 3 stars. I was kinda weary. But we still went in... If your expecting fine dining. This is not the place. BUT... If you are expecting good food for a decent price. This I think is great. Hubby had steak and eggs and said t was good tasting. He ate it all. My son Robert had a grilled cheese with bacon. The bacon was of good quality and the grilled cheese was served on wheat bread. I had a half a sandwich salad and soup combo. Salad nothing to write home about but it was fresh and crispy. The abondigas soup was tasty. And my half a tuna served on squaw bread was yummy. The service from Brian was good. We sat at the bar. So my advice to you all... try a Norm's. better than Denny's!!!

Fucken badass service. HORRIBLE. My family and I waited a hour and half and still didnt get our food. This is our second time being at norms "clairmont" and HORRIBLE service. If yOu have the time and patients for service than this is your place. BUT NOT FOR ME. IT SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN. FAT BOY PROBLEMS, WE KNOW WHATS BEST.

Worst customer service. Ridiculously rude staff. Hung up on 5x just to talk to a manager. Will never return again. Will be telling everyone about this & calling corporate.

  • Odine O.

I've been to this restaurant several times, a few times when they just opened. I wasn't impressed. The customer service was pretty bad and the food would take forever no matter how crowded it was. Now it better. The food tasted good and customer service seems quick, maybe more servers? I don't know, but things seem to have improved. Looking forward to trying more menu items.

I made a Yelp account just for this complaint. First off let me just say I work in retail for my stores customer service desk so trust me when I say I know how customers can get. The only reason I'm giving them a 1 is because it wouldn't allow me to give them 0 stars. Looking at their rating I'm not surprised about the service we received. However, the horrible service I received was not deserved. I arrived at this restaurant and put down my name Alex for a party of 6 at exactly 1:10 p.m. on June 28th. I know for sure of the time because the manager, Muhammad Hannan, yelled it angrily at me when I tried to complain about the wait to Gloria, a supervisor. So my family and I arrived, put our name down at 1:10 pm for the party of 6. After 30 minutes I went up the hostess, Perlita, and asked her "Out of curiosity, how many more names are ahead of mine?" And she went to go check with Muhammad. She came back and told me your party is next. They called about 10 parties of 2. I understand that they're seating smaller parties because it's harder to seat a bigger table. That wasn't a problem at all. The problem was the next party they called was a party of 5. So I went up to the desk again to talk to Perlita. She told me sorry, that party was ahead of you but for sure now your party is the next 'big' party to be seated but it's because smaller parties are easier to be seated. Ok I understand miscommunications happen and mistakes happen so I tell her then can you please separate my party into 2 separate parties so we could be seated and she said yes I'll go tell my manager now. M ore than 10 parties of 2 or a few more get called but then after 15 more minutes I hear on the intercom "Veronica party of 5 your table is ready". At this point, annoyed but still calm, I went up to Perlita and told her she said we would be next. She looked confused and said yes that was your table. Let me go let my manager know. She leaves and from the desk I could see them. He is angry pointing at me and ranting off to her. She comes back. She tells me "he said you're next." That was the 3rd time I heard that. So I went to go talk to him since he's the manager. I went to him calmly trying to explain what my complaint was and he obviously wasn't trying to listen nor acknowledge me. I told him "I have been asking when our table would be ready and your hostess keeps telling is were next but we keep getting pushed aside" and he snaps at me saying "you're next now. We don't have tables big enough to fit your party of six" and turned away from me. I told him yes they do have tables because he called out a table of 5 and the last table of 6 for Veronica and not only that but we requested 2 separate parties to be seated faster and personally witnessed Perlita telling him. He is not only visibly angry but he's yelling at me now. There's a scene now because of him. He tells me "we don't have a table yet for you! Nobody told you you were next because you weren't next! I can't seat you as 2 separate parties because you're written down as a party of 6, not 2! Why would you expect to be seated separately if you didn't request that?!" I admit that that's when I lost my temper. I explained the situation exactly how it happened and he ignored me once again and went about his business so I went back up to the desk. As I was making my way back up to the desk I passed by a skinny black haired waitress who was smirking at me and rolling her eyes. Terrible service. Not only is the manager rude but he's leading by example and letting this waitress be rude also. I found the supervisor Gloria who was very apologetic and I asked her for the corporate number. I explained to her as well what happened and as I explained to her what's happening and that I have been waiting for an hour he angrily tells me "you have not been waiting an hour! Your name is written down at 1:10 and it's only 1:55!" By now the dinning area and the waiting area of customers have witnessed all of this. I have worked at a restaurant before so I know the process of seating guests and so on and so forth. I understand it gets busy which is why i wasnt making a big deal out of it at first. When he snapped was when i finally had enough. This was incredibly unprofessional, rude and emberassing to say the least. I have came to eat at this location before and I have never been treated so horribly before. The service before wasn't great but I have patience for retail employees. This was enough for me to call corporate and complain which I never do. Never coming back. If i could, I would request the copy of that scene be sent to corporate so they could review it and witness it for themselves and rethink about who they select to work for them if they want to get better reviews and give better service.

The service was so bad. To top it off the MANAGER was serving us. My food was cold, my friend's food was not cooked properly. The manager that was serving our table went to refill people around us 4 different times and not once came to see if we needed refills. I even sucked on my straw u know to make that annoying sound when ur drink is all gone. Still she didn't come to our table. I have to say I am not a Dennys fan but I would rather eat there then add Norms. I wish there was a - star viz they most definitely deserve it.

Is there a score for SUBZERO! Disgusting!!! Our waiter was a sweetheart, the only redeemable quality of the place... I get it, not Five Star Quality. Even Denny's on a bad day is better than this. The hamburger was literally drenched in BBQ sauce, the salad dressing made me wince... I have come here before while on shift. Wont ever be back. Neither will my cohorts. When I tried to politely complain, the waitress was rude.... Overheard her telling her manager about me complaining in a not-so-professional way, as I came up from behind where they were standing... Really!!! They NEED to close to regroup, clean up, and hire new chefs and polite staff.

It is what it is people! My kids like it, I like it.. it's nothing fancy just a good place to grab a bite to eat.. I haven't had a meal I didn't like so far, burgers are good, the breakfast is always great.. it's only draw back that I've experienced is that at times when it gets too busy service does go down a bit.. other than that good place.

Worst time and I believe the last time here, not only did we have to wait about 40 minutes to be seated but had to put up with a man that walked in smelling like strong odor of urine... Manager didn't take in consideration of others that were waiting or eating already. People were complaining about the odor, but we all had to put up with it... Then when the guy left it continued to smell up the joint. If my kids weren't so hungry I would have left, but sacrificed to continue to eat anyways!!! So unhappy right now!!!

Nostalgic, I grew up eating at Norms. It's been years since I've been. A different location, but nothing has changed. Back-in-the-days I recalled a pink color beehive hairdo waitress with a flamboyant southern twang that called me "honey", only now she has a vietnamese accent. I know, I know... the food isn't gourmet and the service is fast pace and indifferent. I did get everything I needed though with my no nonsense waitress (I spilled my drink a little, without asking or skipping a beat she flew by dropping off extra napkins). Again, it ain't fancy dancey here, people are here to grub. No white glove service, no silver in the ware, and no California asian-mexican-indian fusion cuisine, strictly a blue collar affair. Ok by me. If I had to compare, it's what you might expect from Denny's, minus a dollar or two on cost. "Where life happens" is their motto. Go to people watch, there's lots going on in this 24/7 diner. Poor, rich, young, old, single, family, all nationalities, all walks of life come, and each with their own story. It's an interesting read, so to say. And you have to like the 50's googie style decor, classic. I take it for what it is, it'll probably be another few years till I find myself here again. At the end my advice is.... eat at the counter, order a chocolate shake or a hot fudge sunday at 12:30 in the morning, and people watch. If you spill a little, no worries, that waitress will fly by you too with extra napkins. As always, let me know what you think.

I ordered T-bone steak breakfast. Steak tough on one side softer in the other side. One thing comes in my mind microwave. I ordered medium they gave me well done. No problem with the service. But when I complaint about this they took this like one of those days.

We walked in to this place as soon as we walked in you get hit by the stench of old half eaten plates of food if that wasn't enough the only scenery here is that of rush our tables with dirty plates with the food still on them cups half filled tables dirty food on the carpet staff half asleep it took 25 minutes to get forks on our table never came back to take drink order

I came in with a group of 11 and was seated really quick especially for a Friday night. Our server Kara was awesome. She checked up on us numerous times and accommodated our many requests. Even though her service was on point the food took ages to come out, about an hour to be exact. The food was pretty good especially since it's comparable to a Denny's or IHOP. Everyone at the table scarfed down their meals with no complaints. I got the Loaded Hashbrowns which is a double order of Hashbrowns topped with cheese, sour cream, tomato, and bacon, an order of eggs and your choice of toast or pancakes for $7.99- loved it! They are also fairly priced. For our party of 11 our total came out to just under $110 which I think is pretty good. Overall I am really a fan of Norm's but an hour for diner food is pretty ridiculous.

I have always come to this Norm's since it's opening years back and it never really let me down. The last time I went there it was THE most unpleasant experience with a restaurant. Not only did I get food poisoning from the clam chowder served that particular day but my boyfriend, who had two or three bites, got sick as well. After calling to inform the restaurant about our sicknesses I was given the wordy customer service I have come across. I work in foods in a management position so I know how the situation should have went. After waiting for at least ten minutes to speak to their manager, I was confronted with a manager who believed I was lying. After grilling me about the exact details of my visit, from service to food, he challenged each of my answers. When trying to let him know about the particular food that got us ill he tried to focus only on the service of the waitress, writing off my comments about the food. After getting upset with him and asking for his corporate number, the manager quickly back peddled asking if he could send me coupons to make up for the $30 of wasted food we purchased the day before. He then told me to see a doctor and then would he proceed with any investigation. My intention was solely to inform them of their lacking food quality and not to get money or discounts from them. I left the telephone conversation livid with disbelief that a manager could treat a customer so poorly. I assure you that I will continue to visit Norm's restaurant but because of this manager I will NEVER visit this location again.

So after along day at Work we choose Norms to eat, there food was alright, it looked better then it tastes, but most of all there waitresses suck they have the worse attitude, along with customer service we seen ppl pour there own coffee I waited at least 20min looking for my waiter to get my check, will not be coming bk during the night...

  • Carol A.

We love Norm's EXCEPT for the music. We really question you taste in the selections of songs that you play at your locations. Our only other complaint is that sometimes your chef doesn't read the customers requests for food selections carefully. For example, my husband and I selected cheese burgers, on toasted buns. His bun was not toasted, mine was burnt. My husband's hamburger was supposed to only have onions, his came with everything on it. He sent it back and instead of making him a fresh burger the chef just removed the items my husband did not want. By that time it came back it was ice cold. Very disappointing. Normally Norm's food is great. Maybe the chef was having a bad night. The service is excellent and the restaurant is very clean.

Pretty good when you feel like having a late night meal , especially breakfast. Their pancakes , personally I think are better than IHOP. I always get the bigger better breakfast . Always crowded at this location and usually always a wait unless you want to sit at the counter . Decent service .

Love this Norm's location! The food is so good and the servers are so nice. Our server was Julia and I believe she had half of Norm's to serve and she did great! She still asked us how we were doing and such. I give her props for taking care of so much people.

My family and I came late at night, It wasn't busy, few tables here and there. The service was just okay. Slow for refills and checking to see how the food was or if we needed anything. The food, well, was horrible. I ordered the steak and it was way over cooked (I asked for Medium) it was cooked "Well" the mashed potatoes looked like they were cooked hours and hours ago. I asked the waitress if they were fresh daily? she said they did cook them hours ago. So they weren't my kind of "fresh" and just ick. Food took longer to get which is another star gone. I've experienced better food, service and wait times elsewhere. Sadly I won't be coming back here. Just not worth it and I think a lot of the reviews here also show what I experienced.

Just walked in and sat at the table and immediately I was disgusted with the table. It was freshly wipe but they only wiped 3/4 of the table. There was stains on the creamer when I picked it up. Server barely gives us a menu and ask if we were ready. Really lady? You just gave us the menu. This is the last time I'm going here.

My husband and I came for breakfast on a Sunday. We arrived at 8:50 am we expected it to be busy so we sat at the bar. Our server arrived promptly abdominal took our drink order. We received our drinks and she took our order. At this point it's 9am. We then didn't receive our food until 9:30. I ordered the classic omelet with ham and sourdough toast. It was flavorless. My husband ordered the steak and eggs, medium well. It looked less than appetizing, and was burnt. Half of the steak was chewy and not actual meat. Over all our server was nice she was just swamped. Oh and when we went to pay my husband who is in the army asked about military discounts even though he had his ID they said he couldn't get the discount unless he was in uniform!? We have eaten at other norms and not hand this bad of an experience.

I was here on saturday night eating a late night dinner with my friend. I order a sirloin steak medium. They steak tasted really not fresh.it was hard to cut and chewy. I have notice the food service in this place has gone down the foo. some of the food was salty. They have bad customer service people skills here. why would drop off there check to the customer when they are still eating their dinner? it plain rude.

I've never had an issue until today! We sat down and three tables got served before us! We literally waited 50 minutes for our food and nothing. No surprise when the other tables finished dinning and we were still waiting for our food. Our waiter was nowhere to be found when we were asking about our food. She had the cashier keep asking us if everything was okay! No, if you are the waiter you are the one who is suppose to check up on us!

    (1)
  • Judy E.

What! They are out of steak at 2:47 PM!!! Slow service and the loudest woman I have ever heard in the booth next to us!! All combined makes for an awful dining experience! Hope the food is absolutely fantastic!!

Just pathetic. Last time I came here it was with my family and our server was horrible. This time, she was at least nice. However, it took forever to get our order in, and then about an hour and twenty minutes to actually get our food. If I wasn't a server, I would be more sympathetic. But this was just unacceptable. It looked to be a 4 chart from where we were sitting. And I saw the other server doing many table touches, while ours barely did one. When our food finally came out, you could tell it had been sitting in the window for a very long time. We didn't complain because none of us had eaten since 1 in the afternoon. My girlfriend barely touched hers because it gave her a stomach ache. I also saw why our server was rarely at our table was because she was too busy having conversations with the cooks. Lastly, when we went to pay, the woman up front seemed annoyed that we wanted our check split. Overall, being a server is a lot more than just taking an order and putting it in. Take care of your tables and that's how you make great tips. Will not be returning

The food is great, a real bang for your buck, some of the combinations are a little weak, like the waffles but for the most part everything is good, staff is really friendly, the wait to be seated may take awhile in the mornings but customer servicr is great even when they are busy, the whole place is very clean looking even bathrooms....overall my continued visits are great every time...oh and they carry tapatio for you hot sauce lovers who denounce chalula and tabasco :]

Lets start from the food, greasy overly mayo and bland . Service was disrespectful where at a time we spotted the servers having their own conversations instead of helping with tables.... Came here late saturday night after the casino to find a lot of their patrons drunk from being either at the bars or clubs beforehand. Norms was always a place to go for me but this experience wasnt that great. The crowd really ruined my meal and my experience. They were all very loud and obnoxious. I know this isnt Norm's fault. As a group we ended up ordering a cobb salad, roast beef sandwich, and a club sandwich with garlic fries. My club sandwich tasted great and paired perfectly with the garlic fries. It gave me garlic breath but it was worth it. My friend said that roast beef sandwich wasnt too great. My other friend said that cobb salad tasted great. It was a very big portion that can easily feed 2-3 people. So why did i knock off 2 stars? They took FOREVER to bring out or food!! we waited almost 45 minutes!!! Our waitress said that they only had one cook in the back. This is ridiculous!

    (3)
  • Sammy S.

Sure... for dinner, you can get both salad and soup choices to start with.... I like the chuckwagon steak so far, but the chef did mess up by over-cooking the steak on a few occasions. Otherwise, it's a family style restaurant that serve better steak dinner than Denny's down the block.

The food was delicious, the prices on their steak and shrimp special were amazing. The service was quick and friendly. My only complaint would be the crowded, noisy dining area.

So the manager hires my friend . Who has 30+ years in wait service experience . Then figured out she was over 40. Fires her. Really ? ! Illegal much ?! Is this typical policy ? Noone over 35 ?.

Hash browns are the best !!!! Perfect amount of salt and crispy. I am not a pancake person but these pancakes are the exception !!!! Service is great , even when it's busy. Yes , it gets busy but it's well worth the wait. At least the waitress come around and ask if they can get you anything . Very attentive .

  • Mark B.

I'm a regular Norm's patron and felt it time to leave a review. First of all I love their pancakes, they're delicious when not over cooked....translation...really really dark. I usually go with the steak and eggs, it's a good deal, under $10.00 and if they have the right cook, can be delicious. The reason I'm not leaving a higher rating is mainly due to food consistency. As I mentioned, when they have the right cook, they're a 10 out of 10, but unfortunately it's a crap shoot. The last few times I've been there the food has been "Denny's" quality at best, and I'm not a fan of Denny's. To those of you who've never been there, give them a try, and remember to take care of the server.

    (3)
  • Isabella A.

I think I was expecting a little more from my visit but overall, it wasn't that bad. I mean, it's like Denny's. I got the breakfast and it was cold right when it hit the table, which is very disappointing. The hot cakes were good and so were the hash browns. But for those of you who ask for something other than scrambled eggs be careful. My eggs were watery and gross. I didn't even touch them because I know of no egg that should look the way my did at that restaurant. They also have limited drink options.

    (3)
  • Richard A.

The service here is horrible. Been waiting over 30 minutes for soup and salad. Totally unbelievable. Folks with me at the counter have waited over 15 minutes just place an order.

  • Charles T.

Came into Norm's on Saturday at 2am. We waited 10 minutes to be seated at our table, 15 minutes until someone took our order, 40 MINUTES, until our food came out, AND ANOTHER 5 MINUTES FOR SOMEONE TO BRING US UTENSILS WHILE WE STARE AT OUR FOOD. SERIOUSLY? The first thing that should be on our table is utensils and our food came out before our utensils? We just sat there staring at our food. I noticed that parties that came in after us got their food and finished up way before we even had utensils. It's not like they forgot, we reminded our server many times. This service is by far one of the worst services I've ever experienced ever. EVER. No way I'm coming back to this location. I was so mad I lost my appetite and only finished half of my entree.

  • James S.

I'm a Norms fan. Mediterranean Turkey Burger on wheat with garlic fries is my go to. This location is the cleanest of the six Norms I've been to.Worst service of the six. I received a regular turkey burger I sent it back. The cook returned it with the same patty I bit off of from the first, incorrect burger. So I sent that back. Fifteen minutes later I got my food. Pathetic. Norms HB is the best. Don't ask what a guy from OC is doing in W Covina at 2AM. Working ........

This place is horrible!! It deserves half a star and that's making the restaurant look good. We went in as a group of 5 on a Friday night and they sat us in an area that smelled horrible to begin with. Then our waitress came took our order and everything was going good until an hour or so. A few couples here and there came in after us and were seated, waited on, fulfilled with food, and left! In the meantime our waitress was no where to be found, not once came back to acknowledge us, and neither did any other employee in the building!! To top it off we left with no food and hungrier than when we came in, angry, and impatient!! If you have the patience and all the time in the world then I would recommend this place for sure. But frankly, to me I think, "ain't nobody got time for that!!" Denny's up the street on the other hand had amazing service compared to Norms and did all they could to make us feel full and satisfied. I agree with Jonathan \/ \/ \/ FAT GIRL PROBLEMS AT ITS FINEST!!

It's not my first choice for food. It's on par with a Denny's. They've got good weekday breakfast specials. Staff is super friendly and service is quick.

Ok were do I begin...if I could give this place zero i would! Rose was our server and she was horrible she got all our orders wrong and when we asked her to spilt the bill she said she wasnt allowed to! Then we were on our way out and she ran after us accusing us of not paying! So embarrassing! I showed her our receipt and all she said was oh sorry! Horrible experience!

Well, for the first time since it opened there was no wait and lots of empty booths... Strange! The potato leek soup was crazy good! Caesar salad was very parmaseany! Everything was good except my steak was well done when I asked for medium, but they kindly sent out a medium steak. I would've had dessert but I was stuffed.

7:30 PM Sunday Night was pretty busy about a 20 minute wait. not to bad. the hostess was very friendly and pleasant. Down hill from there. She warned us they were buy and it could take a couple minutes to see our waitress, 15 minutes later we placed our order. As we sat talking the wife noticed the salt shaker had black spots INSIDE of it. upon closer inspection we saw not only the black spots BUT A NAPKINS stuffed inside as well. We brought to the servers attention and he took it away, took the napkin out filled up and brought back the same one with the same black spots. Needless to say I took another one off a nearby table. The food was mediocre. I had a burger daughter had breakfast and wife had a steak. Breakfast we good, burger was pretty good a little soggy from the wet lettuce and pickles overall decent. The steak was rubbery(chewy) and undercooked. the salads were over dressinged(is that a word) far too much dressing and mine was missing the croutons. Will we go back ? NOPE Could it have been worse- could have been a lot worse. Value- not really unless you get M-f for the breakfast special

  • Kristine R.

Norm's isn't bad. It's like your typical breakfast diner joint (Denny's or Coco's). They have your omelettes, pancakes and waffles for breakfast. And your typical sandwiches, burgers and dinner platters. Now, I actually like Norm's because it's simple and familiar. As much as I like fancy brunch spots, Norm's gives you what you know - simple pancakes, eggs and bacon. Though they do have the fancy skillets, I almost usually just get their eggs, bacon and toast deal. However, I did order their hash brown special - hashbrowns with bacon and cheese with sour cream and salsa on the side. It also came with eggs and toast. Damn, this was tasty, but so fattening. The interior is your standard diner place and service is for the most part fine. Prices are affordable and portions are large. Standard, simple and familiar - that's what Norm's is and why I'd keep going back.

I like this place a lot.me and my husband eat here quite often Friday night's since i get off work late.and we like a change from dennys. Nice waitresses.good enough food being that it's a 24 hour place.they do get busy around 130-230 (when the drunks leave the bars) overall a good norms location.and my husband wants me to add *you must try the chicken gumbo soup!*

Any time is the right time for breakfast! Not really much more to say than that. Food is comforting, prices are cheap and the atmosphere is your regular good Ol' American Style diner. Sit at the bar for a more unique experience. Enjoy!

Customer service is bad. The guy with the tattoos on him left arm treats people like they are unwanted and are waisting his time. The reception is friendly but everything from that point on is bad. The food is good which the only reason for the 2nd star. They seem to be a lot nicer if you are older.

I came here to eat with some friends really late one night and I was not that happy with the service. Our food took a long time to come out, and it was only mediocre. I normally do like Norm's I think it was just the location that I was at. I will check out another location. ENJOY!

Customer service is an issue at this restaurant. I arrived around 3 PM and was the only customer waiting to be seated. It was less than a third to capacity filled. Employees seemed to just look in my direction even the hostess as I later found out as I continued to wait to be seated. More people came in and waited with me along with someone that was ready to pay her check. When the hostess decided to finally attend to all of us she took the person that was ready to pay first. Then it came my turn and was put at a dirty table. I didn't take my seat until it was cleaned. Had lunch which was so-so and left most of it there. Lost my appetite and it didn't taste all that great, it was just a sandwich. I suspect I'll give them another try but I'll try a different shift time next time around with my fingers crossed.

    (2)
  • Tracy D.

Worst service I've ever seen from a restaurant. We waited 45 minutes after we ordered to complain about where our good was and they told us it was due to a shift change. Wrong answer!!! This place should be closed...

The food here is decent but the service is really bad. I called in on a slow day to place a to go order and the lady put me on hold for over ten minutes. Called in again about 10 minutes later and she put me on hold for another 15 minutes to get a server on the phone. I would think a pen and a note pad would be all you need to place an order. I hung up and gave up on this place.

Every Saturday I meet with my mom to have a nice brunch. We usually eat at Denny's or come to this Norms. Food is always okay I guess but service is another thing. Normally I just let it go because I know what it's like to work for customer service and food services. The "greeters" also managers are never nice or even crack a smile even. Sometimes they won't say anything at all. Our waitress Gloria, poor thing, she always seems stressed out and usually messes up our order (had her numerous of times) but me and my mom always tell her it's okay and smile but today it was just awkward and un-comforting. There's also this tall, black "manager" that is ALWAYS EXTREMELY RUDE! Anyway, I usually don't like to complain but I had to let people know how I felt today. Overall great staff, Gloria is great, and the hours are awesome :)

if there was the option this location gets -5 stars. This location is a joke. Walked in to place orders to go. Sat down in front for 5 min waiter approached me and said she will be back in a couple of mins. Left and didnt have the sense to even give me a menu while i wait. I see her serving the people to my side and she walks past me multiple times, yet still where is my F***** menu. 10-15 mins pass, So i go up to register and ask the lady do i place my order here at the register or at my regular spot, she points to where im sitting. Okay so i wait wait wait and still nothing. I got up and just left , they dont really give a shit. Oh and the precursor to this was we even attempted to call in and place our order when we were on the 10 fwy and they put us on hold. took us 15-20mins to get to the location and we were still on hold.

HORRIBLE!!!!! Norms in general is a great place to eat. Fairly priced and great service. This location on the other hand.... BAD... BAD... EF'N BAD!!!! The servers do their part... but the manager is a TOTAL TOOL! I believe his name is WILL.. He should've been named DICK instead. Horrible customer service from this douche bag! I'm not certain how he became a manager in the first place. Does nothing to accommodate customers.

Everyone complains how bad the food or service is but yet they still keep going back?! I have friends that are servers and when they tell me that it's not easy being a waiter. They can have more then 5 table at a time...image having more then 5 table all to your self?? Put your self in there shoes! It's not there choose to have that many table and people are very needy at time...they don't understand! Crazy to say but my friends like there job but there's just something's that's are out of there control...people expect to get the best serves in the world? Like they say u pay for what u get

Come here almost every friday morning with my co workers to have a nice get together after a long week in that graveyard shift. Like the food here its great this place is open 24hours so doent matter what your cravings might be or what time of the day they got it. You will not regret it its like a Dennys but better

Food was amazing I would not have to lie about that. Great deals for such a reasonable price but I got one of the rudest servers there. Her name was Linda F and if I do ever go back here and get stuck with her Ill make sure to ask for a different server. She treated everybody else with respect as they were much older but seeing as I was a young customer I felt she didn't treat me as a customer should be treated. She could've been having a bad day but I didn't cause that.

Late night snack with the boyfriend after watching the Joes from Loopers eat their steak and eggs. $7.99 for a steak, eggs, hash browns and hot cakes. The steak is small but well cooked and delcious. That's the only reason why we come here.

Prepare to wait for at least 20 mins prior to being seated on the weekends. The food is above average and the best among the chain diners. The service was also good. Another thing, for all you active and I think retired military personnel out there, you get 50% off your bill if you're in uniform and 20% off in civilian attire. Luckily I got 50% off wearing civilian attire (maybe cause they know that Marines are not allowed to wear uniforms-cammies off base?) Anyways, eat here!

the food is okay... dennys can produce the same grub... i had a swiss cheese mushroom burger which wasnt bad but ive had better. my brother loved his meatloaf. the paramesan fries were decent. the lil fake twinky looking thing sucked balls. they kept bringin em when all i ordered was one. and the big ass brownie a la mode was super sweet but oh so good and again they brough us another one that we didnt order. too much chaos going on in that lil place which i thought was bigger when passing by. and with the long line of chairs the stretch along the side of the building show how packed it can get as ive seen with its grand opening. i wouldnt go back to this location but most definately would go back to the norms on the corner of del mar and valley in san gabriel. (better seating)

It's a norms therefore anyone that steps into this place has to keep some perspective. First, I prefer this place over a Denny's any day of the week. Secondly, the service and food was actually better than what I expected. I been here about 3 times and both the service and food were adequate.

We drive by this place and there is almost always a wait. Odd set up, kitchen in the middle, all the diners on the outside circle, everyone has to go to the left as the right side is closed off. We finally tried it on a weekday and both of us order the breakfast specials, eggs, hash brown, your choice of a breakfast meat, pancakes and a beverage. Service was fine, I didn't care for our table as it was real close to the restroom. Food tasted fine. your basic Americana food. Damage: $18.00 plus tip for 2 people.

i guess i should thank norm's because i've been wanting to give a 1-star rating for a while now but haven't had the cajones to do so up until now, so thank you norm's! I will not be returning and i am somewhat disappointed that i had a bad experience because anyone who really knows me knows that i love me some coffee shop food. there is nothing more in life i love than a classy 3am dinner/breakfast at carrow's =). first 10 minutes, everything was perfect. in fact i have never received my food so fast and it tasted fine. plus our server dropped off the check with our food so i could pay when ever i was ready. well little did i know that she dropped off the check so she wouldn't have to pay me any attention ever again. by the time i was halfway done with my portabello mushroom- chicken sandwich my hands were covered in sandwich sauce and my one napkin was saturated to the point i couldn't use it anymore. my server didn't even come to refill my drink let alone give me some much needed napkins. i made eye contact with other employees but none of them cared enough to see if my table needed anything. once i realized my server had checked her way out of a tip i went to to the bathroom to wash up and probably left some sandwich sauce on the door handle. i was so fed up i didn't leave he server a tip and made sure my friend didn't either. i have never not left a tip regardless of how bad the service was but i was made to feel like a baby that needed their pampers changed and was just ignored. it should also be noted they were a little on the pricey side, we're not talking denny's prices here. never again norm's, never again.

One of the best norms near LA! I've been to a few norms and this one seems clean and the service was great! Oh and this has nothing to do with the food but I love that there sign works!

This is my first time writing a review. The wait time is not bad considered that it is the typical wait time for any restaurant on any busy night. Wait time is 35 min for a party of 10. Seated to the time for the waiter/waitress to greet us is a no show.....we had our orders ready before we were seated. we actually had to flag down a waitress to give us any attention. The waitress took over the my table. To get our drinks took 3 min but the actual time i would considered it as 23 min from the time we sat down. To get soup and salad is 9 min with no utensils. The waitress was not even aware that my table was missing the utensils. Oh by the way did I mention we didn't get our utensils until I asked for it. It took about another min or so... To get the main entree is about another 15 min from the time we got our salad. The waitress was pretty darn quick when it came to giving us our check. It was ready when we got our food. If anyone is hungry you might as well not go to Norms. You might die of starvation before the waiter or waitress notice you. several other parties walked out because the waiters were too just serving other parties that arrives after you. Luckily for me the waitress whom helped us was quick to assist. I spoke with the manager to let her know of my experience. She said that the waitress who was quick to assist us notified her early on and she came over to see if there was anything to help us. I told her that I am don't say anything because I don't want anybody to spit on my food. The manager was apologetic. However she tries to tell me that there was some sort of mix up with my table. Regardless of the mix up there was no waiter/waitress coming around either helping or offering a refill to our drinks that we never order for 25+ min.

After spending 2 hours at the mattress store the bf and i decided to grab something to eat. We were on our way to the Churrasqueria when we saw the big glowing NORMS sign. We decided to try it out. We were seated right away. The food was good, the dessert was good, reasonable prices, this could of been a great Norms experience but our waitress, man was she something else. We were wondering if she had received botox injections earlier that day since the only expression on her face was a "mean" serious look. She was a mean :( She yanked the menu outta my hand when i was kindly handing it back to her, and at times i felt like bruce willis/6th sense....HELLO I'M HERE, my bf is not the only one sitting here, you ca ask ME how i want my eggs....or maybe demons took over and i was communicating thru my bf and i didnt notice.... She brought the bill along with our food....Okay we just got our food, you want us to leave? We will return to Norms as long as Haira or Hairu or Jeheera is not our waitress.

HORRIBLE SERVICE. Not only did it take forever for them to get us our food and to even refill our drinks, they also got one of our orders completely wrong. Food was not good and the pancakes my friend got were completely drenched in butter.

I've been to the Norm's on Pico and Westwood numerous times (after nights out) and then came to this location for the first time. As for the building, cleanliness, and environment, I thought this one was much better. The food was decent, I'm always of the opinion that Norm's is better than other similar restaurants such as Denny's, Carrow's, etc. As for the food, I also had their $9.99 steak special with soup and salad. It was decent from all perspectives: food quality, quantity, and price. Obviously, this isn't a place I'm going to bring a girlfriend to for dinner but for a late night, post-party meal, it fits the bill.

The quality and selection of foods, I think are better than Danny and Carrows. The place is clean and staffs are friendly. The verggie burger is pretty good.

Went to this Norms with my family and I usually like norms for breakfast or lunch, but this place was ridiculous! It was a little crowded when we arrived, but were seated within a few minutes. But from there the waiting began! There should be no excuse for the delays we encountered. It took about 15 minutes for someone to come and ask for our drink order. Then another few minutes to actually get them. There was never an apology for the slow service, nor did our waitress ever come by to say they would be with us shortly. Once we ordered our food took forever. I know it had nothing to do with the kitchen, and everything with our waitress because when we got the food, it wasn't hot. It had been sitting waiting to be picked up. Refills took forever, and we had to ask for everything. Ketchup, napkins, the restaurant had even emptied out, but no increase in service. Plates and empty glasses piled up on our table. Really there should be no excuse for the lack of service we received. Over all, I will never be back at this Norms!

Me and 10 of my other friends decided to go to Norm's on a Friday night around 8pm because one of my buddies loved the joint. The wait was over 45 minutes but we decided to stick it out because "it was worth it" and boy were we wrong. The drink order was taken at okay time, the food order longer then normal. The soup and salad was decent for basic starters. Finally our entrees came and no one could eat their food. My girlfriend had the lemon pepper chicken and returned it because it was not edible, it was extremely peppery and the lemon was just lemon, not a sauce. A friend of mine got the fish and it was rubbery, not tender what so ever and my friend barely consumed a few bites of her meal. I got the Fisherman's Warf platter the shrimp was the flattest shrimp with a thick layer of breaded surrounding, a disgusting fried white fish, and dry salmon. Dennys- the Wal-mart of all restraunts tastes 10X better than this location of Norms. Don't waste your time there right now, wait untill it's broken in and maybe only then it might be as good as the other locations.

Food and service was awful! I will never go back to norms! I ordered steak and eggs. My steak was not cooked medium, and tasted old, my eggs were luke warm and my pancake was sour. My server took a long time to bring our drinks and when it arrived the coffee was very bitter! I waited over 10 minutes for our check - and the manager was just standing around.

My parents love this place and they wanted to eat here. So we came all the way here to wait for 45 minutes to be seated and eat. It's a little better than Denny's and a bit cheaper, but it's not worth the wait in my opinion. We checked in and it just was such a small waiting space for the massive amount of people who were waiting. My parents - Asian - didn't want to go eat at another place because it was either too expensive or not good for the value. I'm willing to spend money on my parents (because you only get one set of parents - biologically) but when they argue with me, I caved and went to NORM's. The service was good. The guy was really nice and quick with our order. Was the meal worth the wait? Because I was SO hungry, yes, but if I wasn't and I had to wait that long- no. PARKING: On a busy day, like Sunday after church... good luck. OVERALL: Meh

I was really disappointed with the service, food nd just hospitality here at Norms. They have always been great. Then they dropped to ok, now there just terrible. The hostess was more concern with talking, then helping here guest. Took forever to be seated nd for waitress to acknowledge us. Took even longer to get our food. Norms you have definitely DROPPED your game. Order the French Toast with eggs nd bacon. Then when I ask for the bacon that came with my meal, you charge me for a side of bacon. You need better customer service skills throughout your restaurant with certain employees nd managers. As of right now you're establishment SUCKS.

Was a long wait on Sunday morning. Clean atmosphere. I ordered the blueberry with Greek yogurt Belgium waffle. It was okay. Waffle a little hard. The roof of my mouth is all scratched up. Service was minimal. Our food was brought to another table with kids and they had to get from them and bring back over. I can only hope no hands were on the food. Was an okay experience. Not sure I would come back.

So I am shocked I am giving a place like this such a high rating, but then again, im shocked I liked the food! hehe Having a few booths at the LA County Fair it is hard to find decent food after we leave the fair so late at night. Norms was awesome! WAY better food then Denny's and way better pricing. The side salads are just lettuce and dressing but decent, I have had 2 different types of veggie burgers there which were so yummy, the wheat buns were soft and perfect texture, the toppings on the burger were fresh and so good. The fries are good too. I also tried the blackend shrimp fet. alfredo and it was pretty good too. It is not 5 star dining for sure but for the prices, and the taste it is much better then anything else open 24 hours. For the service we had a little good and a little bad...the first lady we had was just kinda wierd but we were always looked after, last night she was really good! Very attentive and very nice. The place looks like a run down diner but sometimes those places do decent food. So again, the main reason it got 4 stars from me was because of how nice it was to find decent food so late at night.

Ok, normally at five in the morning, service is great here. But today, it was so bad I decided to write this review. Basically, WE WEREN'T EVEN SERVED...... We sat there for literally 26 minutes and weren't even asked if we'd like to start off with a drink. At that point, we decided to go to denny's where we were served immediately.... I hope they change the morning person Norms!!!! I think the regular waitress needs to come back or they'll be losing a lot of business. 5 other customers walked out when we did.....

This norms used to be good, now the food is just gross. I sat down in a dirty booth that smelled odd. I Just about gagged anyway the food was very low quality, the steak was gross I couldn't eat it. I'm never coming back! It's just dirty and smelly in there. Avoid this Norms the one in Whittier is much better!

I had such high hopes for this place when they closed the old Steak Corral and somehow those expectations were never met. The staff were very friendly and the place itself was nice, brightly appointed, and comfortable to sit in... but the food! I ordered food to go and by the time I got it home, the steak had toughened and even the bacon and eggs had descended to a level below inedible. In all fairness, I last went during their Grand Opening week which was busier than a thee ring circus. I might try them again when severe hunger pains hit... and everything else is closed.

i use to love going to the san gabriel norms when it use to be still open. the one in west covina just wasn't the same. we came in and didn't get seated for 15 minutes, even though there were open tables all around. my steak was over cooked and even though i ordered med rare...maybe it was an off day for the cook. regardless, i wanted to put all the negative aside all i could and just close my eyes and be at where norms use to be, the friendly service, the good food, and the company. all i got was good company...from my girlfriend.

Finally, a new family style restaurant opening in the old Steak Coral location. They only missed their target of opening in the summer of 2008 by a couple of weeks. Not too far off. Went opening day and were they busy at dinner. The wait was a little longer than we expected but the there was a standing room only crowd waiting to get seated. Food and service was great. The standard menu you expect from the chain but with enough variety to please everyone. Booth seating in the section where we were but some larger groups where being taken to a different section so not sure how large a group they could serve. They also have the traditional counter seating if you want to get served quicker. Fast service and pleasant staff. If they keep that standard it will do very well in this area.

This place fails in every possible aspect other then clean restrooms. I've gone here three times. I'm the type of person where I give a place at least three chances to prove me wrong, but this place is just bad. I ordered Parmesan fries which tasted like a raw onion and a hint of ass. Notice how I said hint. My burger was mediocre. Sampler tastes like it's been fried a hundred times in oil, and has had more oil poured on top of it, then shaken in another bottle of oil. Get the point? Greasy! Breakfast here is just like eh. I would choose Denny's over this place any day. Fairwell norms.

Terrible service. Went there today for breakfast. Usually we go to the Claremont . We were headed to Pasadena , so we figured we would go to West Covina .we were seated at a table ,it was sticky with syrup.we told the waitress. She gave us a baby wipe package to clean it. Poor service. This was the second table we were seated it. The hostess moved us from a previous table with a sticker table top. And nobody wiped it after we were moved.poor service.will not go back

My family and I went here tonight. It has been awhile since our last visit because I have been hesitant to go back. Against better judgement I agreed to give it yet another try. The wait was not that bad, about 15 minutes. When we were seated, the noise level was bad. Any time you are seated in the far back of the restaurant where the larger groups are seated, it is so loud it is impossible to carry on a conversation. I had the country fried steak which when cooked right is one of my favorites. I am fairly sure this was one of the worst country fried steaks that I have had in my life. The breading was horrible and more like a hard crust. The meat was flavorless and tough. Another family member had chicken tenders. They were described to me as frozen crap. We shared a dessert. A brownie with ice cream and chocolate syrup. I was literally hacking at the brownie with a spoon trying to break off a piece. I was not able to make a dent in it since it was so hard. I guess you get what you pay for, Norms is cheap and the quality of the food is not so good. I will say that our waitress was very attentive and provided very good service.

Where's Fidel? Fidel is here. Fidel makes me like this Norms more than I usually would. Old guy with lots of finesse. He brings a smile to my face and my friends just cause he's like the cool grandfather that you've always wanted...and he serves you. What more can you ask for? Anyways...outside of Fidel this is your standard all night diner fare. Nothing too special and nothing too disappointing. As usual the food isn't memorable but the late night crew is. They are quite attractive, hell, some are downright lookers. Outside of that there isn't really anything that makes this place stand out.

    (3)
  • Andrew P.

For the price Norms is okay and if your limited on choices on a Friday or Saturday night I say come here. Some servers will substitute items from you no problem but others would look at you as if you have just committed a crime.

Wow, I was surprised at all the negative reviews of this place. Maybe the difference was that there was an apparent wait when we walked in so we opted for the counter. Generally, I am not a fan of counter service because in most cases the seating is too close with other people for my liking. In this case, the counter design was awesome with comfortable custom chairs where my wife and I had plenty of room and distance from other counter patrons. My wife had breakfast there yesterday. I ordered the "Bigger Better Breakfast" (two eggs, two sausage, two bacon, two pancakes, hash browns) and my wife had pancakes with a fruit topping on it. Overall: Clean restaurant Friendly waitress Food came fast Food was hot Food was great A good experience and I would definitely go back, although with some caution about wait times based upon the other reviews.

They give you a lot of food; soup and salad. The salad seems to be in lew of a cooked vegetable which is great! It comes with potato or rice. The piece of french bread is fresh too. Dinner came with a free desert! There prices are good as well. Service was fast and order was correct. I would skip the mushrooms next time. They didn't taste garlicy at all. I seated right away on an early Friday evening.

A first visit to Norms, I've been living in So. Cal since 2004 so I thought what the heck...I wasn't very hungry so I ordered the cheeseburger Quesadilla and my wife got the steak, chicken, and shrimp trio. We both were happy with the food and definitely will go back. Good portion, good price, and overall good meal.

I rated this Norms location 3 stars (A-Ok) because I think it was somehow way better when it was in San Gabriel, my friends & I would always go at 2am for steak & eggs and it was the bomb! I now have to drive to W. Co for Norms, which kinda sucks even though its not super far. I've been there a total of 3 times, 2 out of 3 times sat at the counter because table service take ridiculously long. The food is okay...it will never be the same though. :(

I am surprised to see so many negative reviews of Norm's Restaurant. I will not be waxing poetic about my childhood experiences at Norm's. Growing up in San Diego, there was no such thing. I will be writing about the one time I have been there. It was a Friday morning in July. You could tell the day was going to be warm, and definitely deserved eggs and meat to start it off. The service at Norm's was like a bullet train in Tokyo, fast and efficient. The food was hot and delicious, like Beyonce in mid-August. Only three stars have aligned for Norm's due to the fact that the design of the restaurant is kind of a waste of space, like a few of the folks I work with. Anyhow, hopefully, I will view this oversight in design as a minor flaw and I will return posthaste!

This place has gone down hill. Our booth was FILTHY. I am by no means a neat nut but there was caked on grime and dirt, EVERYWHERE, seats, table and little separation walls were really disgusting, I have to assume the manager is blind or just doesn't care. It will be our last time there, we were thinking if it's this dirty where customers can see what about the rest of the place? If my house looked like this I would be too embarrassed to ever invite anyone over.

The food there is alright isn't all that great. I like their soup and salad the steak are a bit dry, the veggies doesn't look all that great.. The wait is never long at least when I go. Services is alright isn't all that great.

After writing up a comment card and making sure the cashier deliver to the management, I got a call from the manager in the afternoon. She sent me 2 $2 off vouchers. This makes me think they really care about customers' inputs. When we went back the second time, food was good, prices average. It is just like a Denny's restaurant.

Getting tired of the cooks deciding how I want my food cooked. When I ask for well done, burned, crispy, etc hashbrowns, I expect them to be cooked thru and thru. Period. Also, for some strange reason Norms shuts down their computers during the 7am eating time and if you want to pay by credit card, it has to be done the old fashioned way.

Here's my review....EAT AT NORM'S! I had a family emergency that required me and my Mom to come to Covina for about a month. Staying in a hotel finding good food that didn't come through a drive thru window & that didn't cost a fortune was pretty hard. One night we stumbled on Norm's. We sat at the counter and Theresa was our server. We've been probably 5 times now and everything had been great! Steak & eggs, BLT, Skillet bowls, bacon, fettuccini Alfredo, burgers, split pea soup....and the onion rings! OMG....the onion rings. They are amazing. Get some ranch to dip them in. yum! Just be prepared if you order a side of them. It's more like an appetizer...for 4. It was great to find a place that served real food with good prices and a friendly staff. There is also a young black man who works the cashier that is a doll. I can't remember his name but he is always pleasant, smiling and it's very genuine. The kid has a future in the service industry. The atmosphere is great too. Kind of a 50's diner kind of feel. I really like sitting at the counter as well. It's fun to watch the hustle in the kitchen and most of the staff really seem to enjoy working together. There's a lot of teamwork that goes on back there that we don't often get to see when dining out.

All i can say poor service 20 mins just to get seated then 20 min wait just for water and for my food it took about a hour for a rare steak and eggs staff just chatting around not paying attention to guest and almost everybody here is mad because no food on table even one person was waiting 20 mins just for check/receipt overall garbage compared to other norms 15 min food on table from when we order

Norms! I have been eating here ever since I was younger.Back in the day, I'd go to the San Gabriel, but that one is long gone. :( I came here Thanksgiving night, and it was surprisingly more packed than I expected. Because of that, I knew the waiters were up to their neck trying to serve and help out all the patrons. My waiter did make a tiny mistake on my order, but he fixed it quickly and I was able to enjoy my dinner. And other servers did check up on us to make sure things were okay. So even though there was a minor hiccup, I do take into account that we came on a holiday, so I have to say that service was not that bad. As for food, it's your typical diner food. They have soo many different options - breakfast, sandwiches, burgers, steak, chicken, pasta, etc. Open 24 hours!

I worked really late one night. It was 11:30pm and I was craving for a steak. First I went to Carrows, which according to YELP was 24 Hours on a Friday night. It was closed. Luckily there was a Norms only 4 minutes away. I got steak, eggs and hash brown for $8.99. Our waitress was really nice and attentive. After we ate, my friend and I stayed to talked. My coffee and his hot chocolate was never left empty (free refills). I highly recommend this place :)

To say I was disappointed is the least word I can come up with without violating Yelp's content guidelines. Ok I know it sucks to work on a holiday. Believe me I only get a choice of one out of the 3 major holidays, so I've had my share of being at work while most people are enjoying the bountiful spread on the dinner table with family and friends. It's Thanksgiving, where to go that's open? How about Norm's. Ok then. So we were seated at a table and the silverware is not as clean, so we tried to call the attention of the waitress but she was already getting orders from the couple who were seated after us. Maybe my boo is not quite noticeable- all 6 feet 200 lbs of him? Anyhoo, when our turn came up I ordered steak well done. I know, I know, a waste of meat, but that's how I like my steak. And I want it extra well done so I asked them to butterfly it. What I got was a piece of meat although cooked to my liking, was so bland not even half a bottle of A1 steak sauce and Tabasco could fix it. The vegetables was a blob of listless, monochromatic, overcooked zucchini and a piece of dried over-baked potato. They were out of soup so I got a bowl of fruits which was the best part of the meal. It wasn't anything special juice a few chunks of cantaloupe and honeydew melon and a few pieces of red grapes. And I didn't get a dinner roll, I got a slice of cold white bread freshly plucked from a bag that clearly came from the ice box. Really? The waitress was absent after delivering our food. I didn't wanna spoil my day some more that already took a turn for the worse so we just said a prayer of thanks and ate as much of our food although most of it was left on the plate. I felt guilty thinking of those who don't have food on their table. Still left the waitress a tip though. This is definitely gonna be one of my unforgettable Thanksgiving and not in a good way.

I have been a regular at Norms for several years.. Great portions, great food, great prices. Their gumbo is awesome and their clam chowder is superior. 24 hours a day. Their range of steaks is varied. The service is usually top knotch.

While the food was good, the service was really bad. I tried this place two times last week. Sat at the counter both times. My initial order was taken quickly and my food came promptly, but when it came to getting any refills on my drinks, I was out of luck. Tried flagging down multiple servers, placing my empty glass in different areas so someone would see, even asked the lazy cashier for a refill who said she would get someone who never came. And this happened on both my visits. Not one drink refill, and I sat at the counter for at least 45 minutes on both visits. Servers ignored my requests repeatedly also. Horrible service. I won't be back to this Norms for sure.

I wish I could give this place 5 stars. Their food is great, but their service has sucked everytime we have been here. Good food isn't worth it if the service isn't good as well. Would much rather have Denny's sitting in June's section!

I've been to this norm's restaurant so many times and today was the most disappointing and irritated visit I ever had. Normally the host and waiter makes me feel welcomed, but not today. It was not busy, the waiter Joshua S. was only waiting 3 tables total (that includes our table). He took our drink order which he wrote down, and gave us appetizers before the drinks. I asked him to please bring our drinks and he gave an irritated look. After I received the cofee, he said he w as going to get the creamer, which he did not. I had to stand up and go get it myself. During the dinner, he forgot that I ordered salad! Again he gave another frustrated look and gave it right after. The host Pablo started cleaning around our area and they both started talking about our table and made sure that they know, we knew, they were talking about us. I don't normally yelp, but today I was extremely upset. I did not leave a tip, cause I was that mad. I kept my mouth shut in the restaurant, so i can give them a chance, but it never changed. This is the last time this specific Norm's Restaurant will get my business. I hope corporate sends in mystery diners to test their (Joshua S. and Pablo) customer service experience. I am very huge on customer service, and always try to make the customers feel welcomed and at home. Because of these two employees, I will no longer go there. I hope corporate contacts me to help gain my business back or fix the situation at hand!

This place has the worst service. The staff doesn't care about customer service. They are slow and rude. Unless you want to be treated bad, go eat somewhere else.

:( took ovr an hr to get our orders for 3 people. Then it was delivered & server rushed off & we had to wave her over as she rushed by to tell her she was missing my pancakes. At first she acted like we were trying to get free food, but when I reminded her about the pancakes I had ordered w/ strawberries & then she remembered & asked me if I"d prefer "fresh" pancakes? Isnt ALL the food suppossed to be fresh?? Also my over med. Eggs were way over cooked & crunchy like too much oil was used :( 1st time here, NEVER coming back

Well I know it was a Sunday but 40 min for French toast. I was told that one cook was on break. Food is still hot, so it's fresh and good but an update would've been nice. Especially when the couple next to me ordered steak & eggs & it only took 20min.

Honestly, I've only gone to a NORM's once before hitting a Norms last Friday morning. After going with my mom and brother for breakfast, I can say...Denny's you suck! Denny's menu doesn't have that much of a deal or selection. Yes, I've been around Denny's for way too long, but that's because there aren't a lot of NORM's around. Anyway, Norm's serve massive servings. My brother and I had their BIGGER, BETTER, BREAKFAST and we got another order with a big serving of Chicken Sandwich. We loved the food! Way better tasting pancakes and toast than Denny's. Please do come to Norms...they have delishious deals and awesome food.

We have about a thirty minute wait. So here we patiently sit outside with a beautiful view of the San Gabriel mountains. Its fairly warm today so it's ok. Over our heads we pleasantly listen to 80's classics like New Edition, Whitney Houston. and other greats. So i'm happy because I grew up on them. It is quickly becoming apparent that Norms is a hot spot on these fine spring mornings because it's getting packed... outside. my stomach is aching from wonderfully fresh hash browns (I imagine). so only twenty minutes to get a table. quickly our drinks were served and kids were for once really interested in the kids menu games. usually they take a quick look and do the activities within a couple minutes. I got to mention the restrooms! at least the men's it was clean and great thing was a closeable private toilet. very nice. We got our food fairly quickly. and I now know why they took only 20 minutes to get us in. the very fast service although very much appreciated has an effect on the. food. my eggs were. too runny the whites and the has browns were under cooked, I could taste the water it sits in. I understand the need to be able to provide speedy service. it you have yo cook the food all the way through. I gave it 3 stars only because of the slightly undercooked food and it's unseasoned character.

I love Norm's Restaurant, too bad there are not too many of them around. Growing up I would love going to Norms with my family for family gatherings and special occasions. That is why I would always get that warm fuzzy feeling and I would get reminded of my childhood memories here. My was heartbroken when they closed down the closest Norm's around my area (originally in San Gabriel,CA). So, I was happy to know that there's a Norm's restaurant located in West Covina and I was thrilled to have found this place on Yelp. When my boyfriend and I first entered the restaurant, there was ads everywhere advertising the great meal deals that Norm was offering. One of the deals that I could not resist was the Sirloin steak, hash browns, two eggs and two pancakes special for $7.99 (only for a limited time). That was like the greatest deal that I have seen in such a long time. When I first sunk my teeth into the soft and fluffy buttermilk pancakes and took a sip of my cup of hot chocolate with whipped cream on the top and unlimited refills for only $2.29, I was brought back to my childhood memories, and it was such a delight! The pancakes and hot chocolate was fulfilling alone so I was too full to even touch the steak, hash browns or eggs. Needless to say, I packed everything else to go and let me tell you, it still tasted quite delicious even when I had it for lunch the next day. Norm's Restaurant will forever be my go to place for delicious diner food. I can satisfy my cravings for breakfast, lunch or dinner because they're open 24/7!

Had the filet mignon and shrimp scampi dinner here, the food was delicious and the service was good. The meal came with soup and salad for $15.99. There was no wait at 10:30 at night. So if you are in mood for steak late night or any time, Norm's is the place to be for a inexpensive steak fix.

The Garlic Parmesan cheese fries are BOMB! A lot of raw garlic and parmesan cheese. Very cheap for the price as well. The chicken strips are good. I will not get the steak here. Yuck. They are 24 hours and definitely better than Dennys.

My mom and I just walked out of this place after such horrible service. It was busy, but they had an entire section of booths open. They never asked us if we preferred a booth or a table. So they called us and took us to a table. We politely asked for a booth. My mother has sciatica and so it is easier for her to sit at a booth than a hard chair. There were four different servers in that section at the time (around 6:40 pm tonight); three women and one short little guy. So one of the ladies tells us that we can sit at a booth just mere feet away from the table they were going to originally seat us at. So we take a seat and she tells us one of the other servers will be with us. We were sitting there for awhile and no one asked us what we wanted to drink. Instead, the other three servers stood where we can see and hear them and started arguing about who was going to take our table. They were pointing at us and making annoyed faces. Then one of them comes to our table plops down some napkins as if she was very annoyed and said that someone would be with us shortly. My mom then asked why she had so much attitude. What did we do? The last straw was when two of the female servers were standing behind our table and one asked if the short little server guy was gonna take us and the other replied "He doesn't want them. And you don't want them. I don't want them either but I guess I'll take them." Really? Number one, why would you say that where the customer can see and hear you arguing? And, number two, why would you be acting that way? We came here to eat. Not to be judged. Not to be made to feel like we counted less than other customers. I understand that people have hard days at work and can get stressed out. I have worked in a customer service oriented environment too and that is never acceptible. Needless to say, we got up in the middle of their arguing who was going to take us and started to walk out. They all stopped and asked where we were going. Really? I told them that they were too busy arguing about who would serve our table in front of us. They just looked shocked and none of them apologized or tried to make it right. They let us walk out. We went up to the register and told the two hosts what happened. I said it very loud so that everyone in the lobby (there was a lot of people waiting) could hear us. There were plenty of shocked and disgusted faces. One of the hosts offered to get a manager (who was nowhere to be seen through any of this). We were too disgusted and didn't want to wait forever so we left to go eat at a restaurant down the street. I don't know if this was a case of discriminarion or just overworked people. Either way, horrible service! It should have never happened. We are regular costumers and have been going here for years (since it opened). Guess we will go to Denny's across the parking lot instead.

I can't believe this was my first time at Norms. The deals were amazing and service was great too! I prefer Norms better than Denny's any day!!! Love the $8.99 steak, eggs, and pancake deal! Cooked the strip steak perfectly as requested (medium rare)!

Their menu is a bit more extensive then the other two diners you are probably fond of. Food is okay. Great place for some late-night munchies though. Other than that, I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to go here.

I really want to give it 1 star because our seater was the rudest restaurant worker i've had in a lonnnnnng time. You know who you are, working 3/25/14 around 8 AM. Only reason I'm giving it another star is our waitress was nice enough and the food was cheap.

This place is very good, but horrible experience. They forgot to call our name which made us wait much longer than everyone else. We finally got to the table after waiting for almost an hour and the table wasn't cleaned. It was sticky.

The sign on this Norms is our old San Gabriel,Norm's of 35 or more years- rehung here, when Norms bought a old Steak Corral, and re-branded it, when San Gabriel was closed. So, the first time I stopped here some of the old crew from San Gabriel were working here, so a nice catch up. It is clean, tight parking, a bit small, and bathrooms ok. About a mile North of 10 freeway on AZUZA... SO, for consistent food, seemingly unchanged for 30 years except prices and portions, Norms is as a old friend, nothing special, just ok food, at decent prices... I stop there occasionally! A Denny's it is not! Also DAILY SPECIALS AND EARLY BIRD 3PM TO 5pm promotions....

I arrived at Norm's around 11:00 this morning and they had about five people waiting to be seated. All five were called then a flood of people came and and were seated. I inquired with the tall young man at the register and he said the he had the new list and the old list went to the back. And I said so when will I be called, he said the list is in the back. I checked with the lady in the back and she right away seated me. My point is this young man has no idea of what customer service is all about. They need to have him working with the server's they have their act together.

I went to Norms this past weekend for breakfast. It was average, but nothing to write home about. Pros: - breakfast served all hours - easy location to get to - reasonable prices Cons: - atomosphere can feel a little truck-stoppish

its hit or miss at the west Covina location. I have been here late on a Saturday night and got great service, but regular dinner hours not so good they get too busy and don't have enough staff to handle the crowd.

Much better than Denny's. Food is a lot better and they give you bigger portions, your whole plate is filled up with a more affordable price than what Denny's offers. If only there were more Norm's around...

Came here to eat with my grandmother. I'm giving this place 2 stars because the service and the unpleasant environment but the food is good. The hosted calls the customer on a very loud speaker to go to the back of the restaurant instead of greeting them properly. While I'm having lunch all I hear are the names being called in the extremely loud speaker and could barely hear my grandma talk. Service sucks here.. Go to another norms. Never coming to this location again!!

I'm not sure what's happening to this particular restaurant. It was great before. The good was good. Service is ok. Now they usually run out of certain ingredients to certain plates you order and the servers are pretty bad. They are slow. That happened a couple of times and it's enough to make me not come back here ever

Worst service ever! Our servers name was Paula.. I asked her questions about the food on the menu she could not answer any of my questions. I believe she held a manager position .. Quote from her exact words "if you don't know what is in it, I don't either" She then insisted I tip?! The nerve.. I will never go back to this Norms. I advise you, you're better off going somewhere else.. Horrid customer service.

The food and service good, though not great. I've had amazing burgers for much less. This Norms is also usually pretty busy too and I had a short wait even though it was just me eating. Good for them, I guess. Anyway, it's an all around A-Ok place. Not much more, not much less.

I love norms for their consistency on food quality and their low prices. However, the service here most of the time sucks. I've had really bad service here more than once and I have never had great service. Most of the waitresses look really mad that they work there. The food here though is great to me. I like that dinners come with soup and salad and I always like to look at their deals that usually come with desserts.

  • Sandy M.

Stopped in for breakfast this morning, I selected a seat at the counter to avoid a long wait. WRONG! Waitress still took at least ten minutes to give me a menu and another ten to take my order. When the order came, it was short one sausage. I asked for eggs scramble medium soft, they were as hard as rocks and this was the GREASIEST breakfast I have EVER had! Can't go back.

Worst experience ever! After we requested for our party of 9 to be moved to a booth, the looks between the shift leader and our "server" Alyssa were obvious that they were too busy to take care of us. we were sat and 15 minutes later (with no utensils or anything) Alyssa comes to take our drink order....12 minutes later she comes back with no drinks, but to take our meal order...once I asked for utensils she was with an attitude-said well, I was ready to bring your drinks" ...wow! we got 2 cold coffees, and 4 warm "hot chocolates", I requested for fresh coffee, she went and talked to her friend "shift leader"- after smerks, she brought coffee, but still no utensils...just a mess and horrible by far the worst service...food came out (2 waffles cold) the kid''s mac&cheese cold. we told her about the waffles and she got more annoyed....and my order? french toast never came out... after we asked for water, I told her to just cancel (an hour later) my french toast...she said "oh sure-no problem!" Bill came in $71.01, I got up and talked to the cashier, she suggested to call Eden, because the "shift leader" and our "server Alyssa" were buddies and wouldn't do anything about it. as I was paying , the leader came by and I mentioned our disappointment, but she said, "yes, Alyssa told me about it" and walked away to go laugh with her. How rude and disrespectful, this is the reason, I'm writing this before I contact Eden, the store manager

I prefer Norms over Denny's and Ihop because their steak taste better. For the price and 24hr convenience this place isn't that bad. I use to go to the Norms in San Gabriel but since they closed down I started coming here. I think they should change their drinks to Coke products.

Never had it before so my friend & I decided to go. I ordered a plate of fries & a chocolate milk shake & she ordered a sundae. Our orders took forever to come out, and it took quite some time to get us seated as well. Its pretty much average, I think I'd rather go to Denny's or Ihop.

I'm not gonna comment on the service.. It was alright.. But I don't even care because all I care about is their $5 big breakfast! So much food for such low price^^ I've been there twice and got the same thing~ I'm definitely coming back again and again and again!

4 stars? I must be drunk while writing this review....Oh wait, no, I'm sober now, but I'm drunk every time I come here, and it never disappoints. I was just here this last Saturday night, after a wild debaucherous night that started with a group of German ballerinas and a taser gun and we all....wait, I'm getting side tracked here. So Norms.... I had the bbq bacon cheese burger served with half fries and half onion rings. The ability to split fries and onion rings with no charge up'd them from 3 to 4 stars. The burger (which I asked for medium) actually came out medium. That surprised the crap out of me. Our server seemed kinda young. Not the typical angry/bitter elderly waitress that frequent every, single Denny's ever, and she was very attentive and nice. The drunk me appreciates those little things in an after hours restaurant.

Is it top quality food? Probably not but hey you get what you pay for. If your short on cash but looking for a big meal, this is the spot. Where else can you get soup AND salad plus entree for around $12. Portions are huge. Service is ok too. I wish they would open more Norms. Cheap and always open

now i know why this place business is doing so good thanks to all the people with late night issues and across the street GYM......... my friends wanted to come by here after gym to enjoy there 5.99 special steak and egg and i just enjoy my coffee the. as you walk in the place look like it's new but when we where escorted to the back it looks kinds of old but it's still okay. the service is slow well around 1 in the morning that is but the food is always warm and welcome

I fucking love Norms. Me and my friends come here all the time late at night. The food is always so good, and the service is usually pretty good too. Norma is awful. I realize there's two of them, not sure how to distinguish, but this Norma use to be my favorite until she screwed us over one time. Now she won't serve us, and I wouldn't let her anyway. Delia, Jennifer, Louis are my favorites. We usually see Louis on Tuesday nights. Haven't seen Robyn in a while, but she was also really good too. The french toast is excellent here. They are far more flexible than say Denny's, with way higher quality food and better service. Any meal, any time of day, and Norms is a great choice. Soup salad and half sandwich are good. Their caesar salad is amazing; I get it 95% of the time I come here, which is usually twice a week. I have noticed the food seems to be really lacking in salt sometimes, like the Alfredo sauce or the soup. But that's easily remedied by adding some. Better than too much salt, obviously. Hate that they took away the free schooner when you have a movie ticket stub too. :( Took off two stars, because apparently, that shit about them never closing is just that... BULLSHIT. Went here 9/10/13 at 1am. Place was closed. 10pm-6:30am for CLEANING. Ended up driving all the way to Rosemead to eat at a crappy 24 hour IHOP, because no way in hell was I gonna settle for Dennys.

My family and I visited this place last night for dinner. Its close to my moms work so it was convenient at the time. It was clean but there was a lot of dust on the window seals so if u leaned too close to the window u definitely got dusty. I know because my sister did. When we first got there my dad said hello to a hostess and she walked passed him. Then, he said hello to a server and she looked at him then turned to continue a conversation with someone in the kitchen. She ended up being our server. When she was taking our order I could tell she was sick. She then began coughing and rubbing her nose. she had to excuse herself and came back to finsh taking our order. Our food wasn't bad but I wouldn't call it great. We got offered zero refills untill she brought our check at the end of our meal and by that time we were all done anyway. The hostess that ignored my dad in the beginning rang us up and when he brought it up she said "oh. I didn't see you" . So if ur thinking about a mundane meal with about the same customer service for a semi decent price, then go here. You will get just that

I've eaten here a number of times, and I don't think I'll be going back. Their side salads are basically bagged salads, thrown on a plate. And they always pour way too much dressing on it. I want it to DRESS the salad, not swim in it! Ask for dressing on the side. Their soups are not half bad. I had their gumbo soup, and it was tolerable. The only thing that stands out on their menu is that they have a Pesto Chicken Spinach Salad. It's pretty good for a salad coming from a Norms. I've had a tasting of their Chicken Parmigiana before. It was disgusting. The spaghetti was watered down and the chicken was fried for way too long. Sometimes, they have a special menu.. like a Mediterranean menu or Mexican menu or something along those lines. It's cute. I think I had a Greek sandwich before.. forgot what it was called. It wasn't good enough to remember, or it was so bad I blocked it out of my memory. Their burgers and sandwiches are what they are.. food.. to be consumed, not enjoyed. The only thing I'd eat here if I ever come back is breakfast stuffs. They're pretty much the run of the mill Denny's-IHOP type of plates. The only drink worth paying for is their strawberry lemonade. It tastes like a OMG double rainbow in a cup. Double rainbow all the way across the table! It's really good. It's probably Minute Maid or something. It comes out of a machine, but it's freaking juicy. If you ever find yourself at this establishment, be sure to check out the front door. "Will Cook General Manager." View photo. It always makes me laugh. It's a Norms's so what do you expect? If you have any respect for your body and what you put into it, I'd go elsewhere. If not, enjoy.

Disappointed on the food quality. The pancake was hard and I had to use a knife to cut into it. The new Sirloin Steak & Egg special is not as pictured and the steak looked like they pounded a small cut to make it look big. Service was bad bring food out at different times.

    (1)
  • Jay C.

Steak and eggs for $7.99...instant 5 stars from me. Very hard to screw up. The pancakes are 1/2 the size of the La Cienega location but they are still god damn good. Oddly the best I've ever had--easily surpassing any similar chain--Denny's/iHop/etc, even topping BC Cafe! The sirloin steak has been injected with so much tenderizer it's ridiculous, but if you eat it hot off the "grill", it still tastes freakin' amazing. I like my eggs over well and just take out the yolk myself.

  • Rara M.

I'd choose Norm's over other 24-hour diner's any day. The service is good and the food is not bad. I'm not a burger or sandwich eater, so Norm's random menu makes ordering much easier for me. I've tried the pastas, fries, breakfast food (Pancakes, sausage, eggs, etc), and gumbo (only available on some days and times). The pasta portions are pretty huge, so I'd recommend sharing that along with an appetizer. The taste is ok. I think I make a sad face every time I ask, "Do you have gumbo today?" and hear the answer, "I'm sorry hunny, not today." The garlic fries are quite good. This will always be my late night comfort food stop.

I've been to many of the Norm's but I'm reviewing the one in W. Covina. Went there last night with Yolanda & Evan and we all got the Bigger, Better Breakfast after drinking with friends. The food was good and totally hit the spot. The plate came with 2 stacks of pancakes, 2 link sausages, a ham steak, eggs, 2 bacon strips, and has browns... all for only $5.99! wooo! the staff were plenty friendly. Came to check on us a few times and made sure we got what we needed. It was good... Evan ate everything, but Yolanda and I couldn't finished the damn pancakes. But we devoured everything else. It was a yummy 2am breakfast for sure.

You guys just went downhill... Came in here when it busy so i understand. But even when there is only 4 tables occupied I got my simple order in 40 mins. They're fucking up my visit for the 3rd time... I suspected that this lady forgot my order. Food came in with not the correct order specifications toast became pancake & medium rare steak came as medium to almost done. Fu! I was expecting some kind of gesture to make up for what they did but nothing. So no tip for you instead!

Today's service was as good as the food. The Sirloin and eggs was delicious. My steak was perfect and tender. The two servers that helped us are really good, what a difference a smile makes. We almost stopped coming here awhile back because of a server, but it appears all is well now. Good job for a chain restaurant. Looking forward to our next visit.

Brought the family here today. I felt like soup and salad with an entree, but didn't want to pay a ransom for it. We got there a little before 5pm and got seated right away. The guy who seated us...well, not sure if he was human or a robot. No personality...he told us the daily special like a robot....but whatever, he's not the one who's going to serve us anyway. Our server was great and very attentive. I got the 3/4 center cut pork chop with garlic parmesian fries. The pork chop was tasty, although I doubt it's 3/4 lbs like it says on the menu. The flavor reminds me of the prime rib pork chop from Beckem's Grill in Pasadena, but I'm not paying $30 for it, and I get soup and salad. Yay! Food: Salad, usual iceburg lettuce with a glob of dressing. Decent...dont' expect too much. Soup: I chose the chicken tortilla. Tasted like vegetable soup with a ton of tortilla chips on top. Taste nothing like the tortilla chip soup I had in other places..um, don't order that. Pork chops: Very tasty Side: Parmesian Garlic fries: You have to looooove garlic. I think there's a tad too much of it, but hey, if you love garlic, order it! Bottom line, service was great (Ramis was my server), food was good. Will be back.

HANG EM HIGH!!!!!! Most horrible, worst diner ever with ignorant staff. We went there on the holidays, late, it was busy, but others were served far faster. After nearly an hour of sad waiting, and watching the place empty out, and helplessly over-noticing all the very FAKE and overly happy phony baloney pics of peeps on the wall who are their supposed customers ...SOO CONTRIVED.. I was served meat in my omelet after stating I am vegetarian. A concept the discompassionate waitress cannot grasp. It was especially sad as this used to be a fun diner 15 yrs ago...during the times of their homemade miniature muffins that the mo***erf*ckers dont even bake anymore! I brought my mom here so that was embarrassing, not to mention a BAD memory for the holidays, and Id like to have as many good ones as I can with her now that shes older. I simply HAD to complain to the upstart youth in the front who'd originally greeted us. No refund! No discount. As we paid we got to hear an older asian woman who was counting the cash there bitch at him! A family who had walked in, walked out, loudly muttering "they have their heads up their asses here". NO TRUER WORDS... The boy claimed he would report all this to the manager, but no compensation occurred. Unheard of! Im never going to this shithole again!!!!!!!! FUCK YOU!!!!!!!!!!

We were all so sad when the Norm's near us on Valley closed down a few years ago. Ever since then we have been searching for a replacement for that norms on Valley. The only thing comparable to the Norms on Valley is another Norms. The nearest is the Norms on Azusa. This location is much newer and has a nicer seating arrangement than the other norms we have been to. The steaks are admittedly not going to compare to those from rooftop hotel restaurants that rotate (aka Bonaventure), but for $8.29, instead of a view of the city, you get hash browns, eggs, and some pancakes....what a deal.

You know, I actually very much like Norm's. It's pretty much a Denny's I guess, but WAY better. The low rating? The last couple times I dined there, have been horrible. My waffle was burned to a crisp and the strawberries on top were still frozen. I didn't notice until I took my first bite and the two extreme temperatures literally gave me tooth aches. One of the bacon was not thoroughly cooked and lastly, my milk tasted really gross for some reason. Oh, and the waiters? Are damn idiots and very rude. As I was talking to my waitress, the manager himself comes up to my waitress and starts talking to her. After about a minute, he just left. No, "Excuse me." or "I'm sorry." When I finally got her back to my attention, I said, "Strawberry waffle with eggs and bacon." Waitress, "Would you like bacon or sausage?" I looked at her and thought. . . Seriously? Finally I had to answer back and said bacon. Wrote it down and left. Not even asking how I wanted my eggs. The entire time she waited on us, she was completely spaced out. No wonder she works at Norm's in West Covina.

I have yet to have a bad meal at Norm's. I'm not saying they're the best restaurant around, but they definitely beat out similar places like Denny's and they have a much better menu selection. Saturday night, I had the Fisherman's Wharf Combo and it was comparable to something I would expect at a regular seafood place for a lot more money. Their dinners are exceptionally good for a place that always struck me as more of a "coffee shop" than a place with a full dinner menu. My only complaint, if you can actually call it that, is the building lacks the Googie design Norm's is famous for. The place still looks much like it did when it was Steak Corral.

Normally any place that serves me a filet mignon steak that tastes like the cleaning fluid/soap that is used to clean the burnt food off of the kitchen stove/grill with a 1-star. However, the crew at Norm's West Covina really did step up above and beyond the call of duty to make sure that I and my la-L.A.-ladies after St. Patrick's day beer and bowling. And we did not have to wait 30+ minutes like we do late nights at Norm's West L.A. All of the other meals were fantastic, as we all sampled from each other plates. Mine just happened to be not so good. My waitress (who really took care of us) checked with her manager, just to make sure, and sure enough they gave us a fresh filet, and this was delicious. Norm's may not be too good for my waistline, but when I do roll on in with my girls I sure as hell will be eating well.

Do not sit in the sitting across from counter after 9pm. The service was horrible! I never got a refill on my drink! My boyfriend asked for a refill and we notice the waitress gave it to someone else. We had to ask for serve wear! I asked for the manager and a waitress came up and said she was a shift lead. Ya she didn't really care about the service. Obviously she has no idea how to run a shift. I felt like telling her if the waitress cannot handle her area maybe you should help her! Worst service ever but I guess it's you get what you pay for at this Norms.

I came late on a Monday after rollerskating with my best friend and her sister. Norm's is still the same dump it was a little over a year ago when it first opened, haha, just not as nice and new anymore. At least I don't work here anymore, lol, and the cooks are still cool with me so every now and then I'll get a discount or free meal. Well, it was a late understaffed night as usual, the server was a little slow to get us drinks and take our order and she wasn't even that busy so that was lame. Our server also had the unfortunate task of informing us that their deep fryer was not working, so anything fried could not be ordered at the moment. That meant we could not order a side order of french fries or the chicken strips, boo! lol! So I ordered my favorite thing at Norm's a club sandwich without tomatoes and a side of mashed potatoes, yea I know a little random, lol. I didn't have very many other options at this point, and I like their mashed potatoes. I would've given them 2 stars for the fact that was no fried food, slow service, and she didn't offer to refill my water or hot chocolate very often, but my club sandwich was awesome. haha. So because my club was that good, they get 3 stars and plus all the food is pretty cheap too. You get lots of food for pretty cheap so there you go, can't complain. *and for the person that said no one speaks English, wtf is she talking about? Lots of Spanish speaking employees do work there, but everyone speaks English just fine.*

This place is not as great as its advertised on TV they are not friendly and do not accommodate your party. I met my sis there and they wouldn't let us sit together. She got there first so they wanted us to wait for another table. The waiter was rude didn't even acknowledge us and the manager told us we had to wait! Well guess we will never go there again!!! don't know if that bigger better breakfast is good didn't get a chance to taste it, but if the service is that horrid then those ass-jacks food is probably as bad!! Well one place I do recommend is Le Roy's in Monrovia they are friendly helpful and serve you with a smile and you feel welcomed!!!

OK...so on St. Patrick's Day 03/17/2015....at 11:35 p.m. we arrived at Norm's. One of my friends ordered ordered the New York steak breakfast..which litterally took 40 minutes to cook. Other people next to us got their food first and laughed about how we didn't get our food. My baked potato came out harder then a rock My other friend had pancakes with pieces of hash browns on it. We sat at the counter and the girl with the big nose with a very bad attitude treated us like crap. Quit, go home...do something...but don't make our lives miserable... uuuuugh. That's why I drive 10 miles outta my way to go to the one in Montclair off of Indian Hill. WHY??????????????????????????????? Because they have compitent people, better food, faster service and better personalities. This Norm's is the dive of all restaurants, is noisy....stinks...

Been Here about 4 times. Waiting period is about 30min. And it's been only me and my Husband for breakfast. Food is great. Service is good depending who you get. Today service could have been better. About 5 servers where hanging around the coffee machine when they could have filled coffee mugs faster. I waited awhile for mine to be filled. The place was packed as always.

Hung up. called back. not a single apology. Then instantly i can order my food!!! WTF?? why couldnt the people who pick up the phone just place the order??? if you walk in, most of the time the cashiers just stand there.

Like any other chain diner. The prices seem really good. Can get a HUGE breakfast for an awesome deal. Not sure if it's worth the wait of a long drive, but fun to try if you're craving a massive, heart attack inducing breakfast

I have gone here twice before, and had 3 star experience. But today, I feel compelled to write about today's experience. It all started with Gloria, our server with an attitude It was Wednesday, April 27, at about 7p. She was not warm and friendly. Okay...maybe someone died or her dog got hit by a car. I get it. People have "bad" days. But, the bare minimum service was not met. She hardly ever came back to our table to check on us. My fries came to the table cold. Like it had been sitting out for a whole half hour. Not only that, we had one table setting and shared one napkin. We both asked her for napkins, but she decided her shift was done, because she didn't bring us any. My husband went to the bathroom to get some paper towels. Maybe there wasn't any paper towels in the bathroom either, so on his way back, he went to the counter, and had too ask another server for napkins. Seriously? When the cashier asked how was everything, I told her that I wasn't happy about the cold fries and the napkin situation. She told me that next time, I should "threaten to talk to the manager" so that way the server can "shake on her boots." I told her that I felt uncomfortable threatening someone that would be handling my food. She laughed. Apparently the cashier was high (figuratively speaking, of course). She must have been smoking something cuz she asked us TWICE if we needed a Senior Discount! HELLO! My husband and I are in our mid-30's (okay, FINE, I'm 38!!) and I can't believe she asked us that question when I still get carded for alcohol! We are in a recession/depression! Nowadays, people choose how they spend their money. Especially if it's eating out. Norm's is place that is known for their food and service. I am severely disappointed and dissatisfied about their consistent bad service (this is the 3rd time I have come here). Being a new business in our neighborhood, with such a reputation to protect, It's so important to build customer loyalty. People go out to eat for convenience as well as, to be served respectfully, in exchange for money. By the looks of the reviews on here, this business needs to improve their service and food if they want to build customer loyalty and profitability. Suggestions: They need to start screening and hiring service workers that are consistent with their branding and service. Food needs to be served hot and of good quality. The workers need to be warm, and friendly. These are diner-standard values. This is the reason why people go to diners like these. I guarantee that ratings will improve and go up.

Loved it. This one was a newer, clean place. Food was very good. I'm a steak lover. I have paid 5 times more for lesser quality food at other upscale restaurants. Good food & you get bang for your buck.

Went here yesterday, after being snubbed at Cocos(see review) and as usual the service was great and the food was great- I should have come here first- even though it's a bit further I have never been unhappy at Norms and that goes back-well over 50 years- Thanks again Norms-

Been here a total of 3 times and all 3 times it has been a disappointment ! The service is terrible and don't even get me started o n the food ! I love Norms pancakes but this place lacks the Norms food quality. This place is a few minutes from where I live so it's convenient but I rather drive to the Norms in Huntington Beach. The Huntington Beach location never ever disappoints (so far). If I could give the West Co location no stars I would.

Well...it's open 24/7. I ordered the trio that came with steak, shrimp, and chicken strips along with a fried banana dessert. It also came with a soup and salad. We also had the Parmesan fries. First off was the fries. It was good for the first couple of bites but the garlic is a little too overpowering and there wasn't much Parmesan on it. I had the minestrone soup which was okay. My salad came with Thousand Island dressing and I didn't finish it because it was drenched with dressing and everything became soggy pretty fast. My steak was a little salty and I felt like the shrimp was a bit too oily. I didn't try the chicken strips because I was going to save it for the next day. The baked potato was all right and they gave enough sour cream. I liked the fried banana dessert with the whipped cream. The trio meal is $10.99 so a good price for the portion,. This place is good to go to if you can't find anything else open but I wouldn't come here all the time.

It's become tradition to come here the night before the bf's cousin ships out to wherever the army's sending him so this place holds some sentimental value (can't believe I'm saying that about a chain diner, haha). We got breakfast here today though, and while still yummy, there's something about eating it at 1am that makes it that much tastier. I usually get the lumberjack (3 eggs, 3 bacon strips, 3 sausage links, hash browns, & 3 pancakes) -- I eat about half and then leave the rest for the bf but I just like it because I get to have a bit of everything. Pretty standard breakfast food, a little greasy but in a good way because it just hits the spot, and way better than IHOP or Denny's, and prices are comparable. If you've got a small party, you can just walk in and sit at the counter if there's space to skip the wait.

  • Crystal L.

I love norms too, so when I found out about this location I wanted to check it out. But I was very dissatisfied. Cream of chicken noodle soup was more like onions and milk curds in a nasty broth. My pork chop was pink! Like "hi pls eat my raw, undercooked meat" gross! Then we had to wait forever to get out check. I was really cheering for this place. But I don't see myself going back to this location.

I went on Thursday night, 2nd day of opening. I've had my eye on this place since I found out they were building one here. I was starving and it would've been a 30 minute wait, which I couldn't handle, so we sat at the self-seating chairs in front. We had a lot of different waitresses help us. I ordered the 9.99 special with steak, soup, and salad. The soup was spicy chicken gumbo, only one piece of chicken and one piece of sausage in there. It was ok, it wasn't even hot. The salad was meh. The steak didn't look like the picture, I imagined thick and juicy, but it was thin and long. Everything looked a lot smaller than what I thought, but that's what you would get for 9.99.

came here for a birthday dinner and a few things annoyed me and my fellows revelers. First, they put all our meals on same check because of some snafu about seperate checks and we all had to line up and sort out with the manager what we ordered. It just took extra long and other customers looked annoyed and kept staring at us. Second I could never get a water refill. I'd ask and she'd say okay and never would come back. Third my cup had bits of dried food or something on it that I to this day still don't know what it was. Fourth my meal was below average as far as taste(grilled cheese and onion rings, how do you mess that up). I expected more from Norms because every time I drive by, especially on weekends there are people waiting to get in. They have commercials up the ying yang so I figured I was in for a treat. I'd been to the one in Whittier and didn't like it but figured it was just not the right meal that night. So this was my chance to see if they actually are any good. Nobodies food looked appetizing to me. The one thing I will give them is the Bigger Breakfast for $5.99(until 2pm then goes up $2) is legit! Me and my friend met here a few days after my bad experience and it was sooo good. The pancakes were awesome and I'm not much of a pancake person. They tasted out of this world good,I don't know what their secret is. It really is a huge breakfast and for a pretty nice price. You get 2 pancake's,slice of ham,2 sausage links,2bacon and eggs. I ordered eggs whites. It was a good portion of food and I didn't even finish it.Also no crust on my cup this time. So, because of their bigger breakfast deal I bumped them up to 3 stars!

It took over 30 minutes for our party of 6 to get our food. All but one of the people in our party ordered breakfast. I'm pretty sure it doesn't take 30 minutes to make pancakes & french toast. The one guy that didn't order breakfast ordered some trio combo.....and even his order was messed up. I don't even think our waiter came back to refill our drinks. I'm done with Norm's. I always go to Norm's after a long night out, but never again. Denny's & Carrow's FTW!

I usually order breakfast when I come here, but this time, I ordered the Garlic Mushroom Steak w/ mashed potatoes and he ordered his usual country fried steak which also included dinner rolls, salad, and soup. The food was okay..the soup was a bit watered down. However, surprisingly, my steak was REALLY good. Service was okay, too. Not sure what Phuc Q (see review below) down there is smoking, but you don't need to speak Spanish to eat here. Granted there are a lot of Spanish speaking patrons and servers, but that doesn't mean they can speak English. Like I said, It's Norm's. You come here to eat, pay, and leave. Our total bill was less than $25.

My wife and I finally succumbed to the TV ads depicting yummy-looking square hash browns and diner atmosphere and ventured a few miles down the road to our nearest Norm's for a Sunday breakfast. After a minimum of fuss, we seated ourselves at the counter. First bad sign: unusually long wait. OK, we can deal. It's busy. Second bad sign: hmmm, party that arrived 15 minutes after us gets served 10 minutes before us. What's that they ordered? Same thing we did. Third bad sign: OK, our orders are botched. We asked for the fruit topping on the side. Just like the other party sitting next to us ordered. And received. From the same waitress. At this point, we just want to eat up and get out. Fourth bad sign: I take my receipt to register and wait patiently to pay. The cashier lets two other parties (the VIP diners of the unbotched, quickly-served orders) slip in front of me and pay their bills first. At this point, I'm pissed. I have a pretty good idea on why we were treated so shoddily, but it's not worth dwelling on. So, dear reader, mentally subtract one star as you read this review. I didn't want it to get filtered. Get your hash browns (which aren't even square, by the way) elsewhere.

I usually really like this place, which is why the lowest I can give is 3 stars. Must be either an off night or the basic decline so many restaurants go through. It was packed tonight (Friday, 9:15 p.m.) so I reasonably expected the service would not be as attentive as usual. We were seated quickly (10 minute wait) and sat at a small table near the entrance. Hate sitting here since everyone entering and leaving walks right past you and I hate having people gawk at my food or even worse- bump into me. But it was too crowded to ask for another table. There was a spill on the floor from the previous guests, apparently they broke into a food fight midway through their meal since there was food everywhere. Food fighting at the Norm's. I'll add it to my bucket list. I ordered a sirloin steak medium rare, fried shrimp, and mashed potatoes. My hubby ordered the rib and chicken thang plate. The food arrived promptly and as soon as the server set it down she took off running. I know it was busy, but we didn't see her again until we had to flag her down for my dessert (came with the meal). The steak was overcooked (but not leathery) and incredibly salty. I could barely eat any of it. The mashed potatoes were drenched in a mushy, flavorless gravy, and the shrimp were well cooked-but a little bland. My husband liked all of his meal- so no complaints there. I loved the dessert though. Strawberry shortcake with fruit and vanilla ice cream. Best part of the meal. I'd recommend coming here if you are craving diner food late in the evening. It's decent, fast, and inexpensive basic diner fare. Just don't expect attentive service if it's busy, the servers are worked hard during their busy evening shifts. Smee's take on it: My feisty little chihuahua loved the steak, although he did gag once while chowing it down. He's not very picky (he licks his own junk) but he doesn't dig it when the meat is overdone. He gives the steak 4 out of 5 stars. He'd come back, but only if people refrain from tapping on his side of the car and saying. "ohhhhhh, how cute" instead of feeding him snacks. Damn looky-loos get on his nerves sometimes.

3 stars for our waitresses' effort at customer service. I can tell they are trying recently. But the T bone steak should be renamed as mystery meat. It is horrible.

Norms. We never close. That's their motto. And it's true. They NEVER, EVER CLOSE!!!! Anyways, I've gone here many times to this one in Covina. The place just opened this year too. I also never heard of Norm's until they came to my city. Sometimes w/ friends, sometimes w/ family. The food is like Denny's to be specific. Somewhat big in portions, a little "ehh" on the prices, and very, very salty too with certain foods like the steaks. The burgers are also very salty, but are really good to many of the people that go there, like me. The seafood selections are great and are very plentiful. But the best of them all is the breakfast menu. You can pay a decent amount for a combination of eggs, sausages, bacon, hash browns, or pancakes/waffles and combine them all together to make a meal fit for you. This place is good for a small sit-down w/ friends and/or family and is good for a small break from the troubles that you might have in the world. I'd so give this place a 5, but GOD DAMN, that waiting list is long. You can wait from 10 minutes to over an hour just to get sit down, AND THEN order your food which will take another 20-30 minutes, especially when w/ a big group.

My sister and I are both seniors and we meet several times a week for breakfast or lunch at Norm's. Every item on the menu that we have ordered has been made and presented exceptionally well. The service is excellent with staff members who remember us and and our preferences amazingly well. Even when we've had to wait because the restaurant is so popular, we've found ourselves in great company because everyone old and young seem to know that they are in store for great food and a very pleasant experience.

I usually frequent once a day. It's right by my work do I stop for a bite to eat then head home. Most of the waitresses on the night crew (4-10pm) are great and bring the food piping hot. Some of them are so so. All the food is great here in my opinion but you need to watch out for the steaks. Sometimes they come rarer than you order. Ask for the pork chops well done as they have a tendency (they are an inch or over thick do it's understandable) to come slightly pink. Pablo (the cook) always gets the steaks how you order them. There are too many good waitresses there to list.

I didn't even get to the food part. A friend an I met up at this place on my birthday because the location was most convenient for both of us. Bad Idea. We walked in and were told that the wait time was approx 15 mins. We put my name down, and waited standing inside the lobby (too hot to sit outside). My friend and I got caught up catching up, but then we realized they had already called the party of 7 that walked in after us, the party of 2 that walked in after them, and the next party of 2 after that. I walked up to check why we hadn't been called. No explanation, but a forced apology. Needless to say my friend and I decided to head to Carrow's right down the street. Ahh, that was much better.

This place always looks crowded, so I thought I'd follow the crowd and give it a shot. Honestly, I don't know what the big hoot is about. The whole place is always crowded, noisy, and it seems unorganized. The food was ok, I had a chicken sandwich with grilled mushrooms, fries, and soup. The chicken tortilla soup was pretty good. But the waitress basically dropped my food off and ignored me thereon after. She later stopped by for a second and asked me if I wanted dessert. No thanks. The food was good, but the place was overcrowded and super noisy. A family restaurant/diner is a place where even when it's busy, the staff has the time and place of mind to remember you and say hi. This is definitely not a family restaurant, but rather an establishment chain in which money trumps customer satisfaction.

I don't understand the people that come here and order steak or pasta. Of course, it's going to be horrible. You have to go breakfast if you come here. This is the only place I know where my gf and I could both get two eggs, hashbrowns, and two pancakes for $11 total. Their pancakes are definitely the best I've had in any chain. This place has saved me from many a hangover. I'm surprised that the service is getting knocked. I've only ever had great, friendly service and I've never felt like I had to know Spanish as one reviewer mentioned. Everybody there speaks English just fine.

Sad to hear people have had bad experiences here. I came here with my bf and the wait wasn't long the service was good and the food was yummy. I did notice that people come to hang out ... read the newspaper, sit and stare at other people... but the wait wasn't that long. The food is what you would expect from a chain, nothing extraordinary. I tried the GREEN CHILI CHEDDAR CHEESEBURGER 7.99 and it was pretty filling. Its a good deal for a late night run.

Had the usual, pork chop and garlic fries. Great flavor, but i am pretty sure it was not the advertised 3/4 pounds. A little tough, although not too bad.

I am a big fan of this new Norm's dessert ~*~the strawberry~banana hot fudge brownie....when WE get it,,,,(WE meaning it is so huge,,,and mos def ment to be shared.) 4 of us share....and I even ask for four cherry's on top of the whipped cream so we don't fight over the one it comes with...lol... I think the food at Norm's is better than Denny's any day..... Denny's to me,is way over priced for what you get!!!Norm's has good food at good price's....I love it at Norms... F.Y.I~ if you go to a movie in Covina, and bring in the ticket stub~you will get a free ice cream sunday!!!!

Why do people come here? This place sucks @ss! Yes, I know there's the nostalgia factor to consider. I grew up in the 70s loving this place, but sadly this version of Norm's does not compare to the iconic Norm's I remember. Hubby ordered their $9.99 steak and shrimp special. I ordered their corned beef and sauerkraut sandwich with fries. His steak was filled with hard icky fat. I normally steal bites from his plate...um, not today thank you. My sandwich looked good, until I turned it over. Underside of the sammy was burnt! So much for the food. Service was good. Waiter had our drinks refilled frequently and checked often. But man do they pack you in like sardines. There was a party of eight in a booth meant for four. So Norm's formula is to pack 'em in and serve everyone $hitty food. It's a formula that won't have me returning. Plus hubby came home with a nasty gift care of Norm's. A grumbly tummy and a long visit in the bathroom. Eww.

When I first was here, it was Norm's Grand opening--"A Zoo"--Packed parking lot and customers sitting outside waiting to be called. My second time was last night. A friend of mine said that Spire's was located here and I remember passing this location when it was the Steak Corral. A small selection of food for dinner except for the folks that are into comfort food. Warning: Dinner comes with Salad And Soup And Dessert plus the main course--for Big Eaters or take home. The Clam Chowder was a watered down. Chowder should be thick! Baked Potato was under cooked-Hard in places. I have gone to the Torrance Norm's --A better experience!! I guess the quality depends on the location.

I love this Norm's - I really do. The food is always so much better than other Norm's that I have eaten at. Far better than Denny's any day; I just wish that there was one closer!! It's cheap, good and always open.....

I visited this establishment with friends hoping our outing would match the experiences I've had at the Whittier location. My thinking was that a month or two of service would allow the staff of this newly opened branch to work out any kinks. Sadly, I was mistaken. Right off the bat, when we took our seat, one thing you cannot help but notice is that you're kind of packed like sardines in a booth. Because the restaurant is shaped with a circular floor plan, the tables and seating are arranged in a fashion that is uncomfortably close. What bothered me the most was that it felt like the tables were positioned too closely to the seats. Additionally, you will hear the conversations of your neighbors, and they will hear yours. So much for dining intimacy. Once we were seated, the server was quick to inform us that at the time, no clean forks were available. So, she gave us plastic forks. *long pause* Prior to entering, I saw a couple of dishwashers on break. To add insult to injury, pretty much all our knives and spoons were unusable, as they were decorated with soap stains and remnants of leftover food. Definitely no bueno. We probably should have left at this point, but we came in wanting to like the place. The pancake-lover in me ordered the Lumberjack Breakfast, while two members of our party went with burgers. One burger was ordered Medium, but it arrived Well Done. Cheese was strategically placed to hide the grill marks. Too bad my friend is a cook himself. Ultimately his meal got comped. For the most part, my meal was alright. However, the size of the pancakes did not match what I'm used to at the Whittier Norm's, much less the impressive serving size one would get from Penny's, Millie's, or Danny's Kosher Pickle. In conclusion, if we really want to go to Norm's, we'll still be hitting up the Whittier location. Otherwise, Denny's is still the place to go to after 2AM around these parts.

This place doesn't even get a star. 1: They don't have shirley temples. what kind of diner doesnt have that? 2: we ordered one chicken noodle soup, and a minestrone. 3: She brought two minestrones. wtf? 4: I ordered my parents medium WELL steaks. She brought 'medium rare', it sed that one the stick that was stuck to the hunk of meat that looked 'rare'. 5: I ordered a dish and she didn't even ask me the option of english muffin, bread, pancakes, etc. She just brought pancakes. I didnt even know it came with pancakes. 6: uhh.. i kinda need syrup for my pancakes. 7: I kinda need hot sauce and ketchup.. 8: the other table that she was waiting hated her too and called the manager. i HATE this place. i hate hate hate hate this place.

Wow. A Norm's that DOESN'T suck!!!!!!!!!!!! It is SO clean! The homie lives close by so we have hit this place twice at like 3am. The service is always fast and EXTREMELY friendly. I ordered the cheese omelet with egg substitute the first time and finished the whole thing. It tasted totally awesome compared to one that I would order at Denny's. This past time I just ordered a cheese quesadilla. The size was just right and they give you just enough sour cream and salsa so that they are not wasting food. I love that! It was regular tasting and hit the spot. My friend always gets the MASSIVE random ass meals that don't sound like they would go well together- like the Chicken Tenders and T-Bone Steak or some shit and he eats the whole thing so I assume that they are good. Prices are reasonable. The bill between the two of us is usually no more than $25 including drinks.

This was the first time I had ever been to a Norms. I always heard good stuff about their food but bad stuff from their service. Maybe I was lucky the day I went because the service was the normal kind. Before I walked in I was expecting to walk in and see a plain diner with people that look like they smoke cigarettes 24/7. Instead I saw families wearing nice clothing, hipsters, and seniors having a good time. I loved their Bacon Cheeseburger! I would say this is the third best burger I have ever had. I also ordered a root beer float which was delicious. I would say what sets this restaurant apart from Denny's and IHOP is food quality. There food taste so much better! Goodbye Denny's and IHOP. Hello Norms!

If you want to go out late--it's the best place to go. Sometimes when I go with one of my daughters we get a meal and a side salad or soup and share. Large portions-good prices-mostly good service. (I do miss Steak Corral though...)

I use to frequent this particular Norms Restaurant when it was in San Gabriel, before it was relocated to West Covina in the summer of '08. Been coming to this joint since '98 a few late Friday nights a month, until it was relocated. So it's been nearly a year since I've been to this Norms after their relocation, and the waitresses that moved with the relocation still remember me! That in itself deserves 2 freakin' stars. The food, wow, you get a full course meal for $9 - $12.00, depending on what you order. I usually order the NY steak cooked medium rare. Meal starts with house salad and soup, then your main meal and finally dessert. The steak isn't out of this world steak, more like your Ralphs variety tossed into the grill according to your preference. The best thing about this place is it's open 24 hours. I always make it a pit stop on our way back from Sea World San Diego. The bad thing? It's about 20 miles away from me now :[.
